On the court: Sims put together another big week for the No. 8-ranked Bushland Lady Falcons that picked up a sweep of Tascosa and then opened District 1-3A with a sweep of Friona for the Lady Falcons unprecedented 82nd straight district win dating back to 2011.

In those victories over Tascosa and Friona, the junior setter totaled 48 assists, 20 digs, 12 kills and four blocks.

On the season, Sims has tallied 520 assists with 146 kills, 99 digs and 15 blocks.

Coach Jason Culpepper: “I think we’re a lot better than we were in August because of our team chemistry. We haven’t peaked yet or are we close which is good right now. But this team is holding each other accountable, and I love seeing that. Mackenzie has stepped into a bigger role than last year. The team relies on her. She’s a leader that does more than set. She’s able to get points for us and is big in the offense.”

Sims: “We’re playing a lot better than we were at the beginning of the year. We’re communicating a lot better and we’re continuing to work toward our goal of getting back to state. To me, I feel I’ve really progressed from last season. I had a leader like Logan Culpepper at setter last year that helped me out so much. She showed me how to be a leader and I feel I’ve really become a leader on this team. My game continues to get better and I’m seeing the floor better and I’ve learned how to place the ball especially to the hitters that need to be set.”
