Burns talks about a new-look Lady Sandies team that boasts a lot of new faces. Burns also talks about the grueling 10-team district Amarillo High will face this year that includes the addition of Frenship and Frenship Memorial.

2025 resume

Head coach: Haleigh Burns, third year at Amarillo High.
2025 Record: 31-10 overall, 16-0 in District 3-5A. Class 5A Division I regional semifinalist.
Returning starters: 5
Season opener: vs. West Plains, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Harper Vaughan, 6-1, outside hitter, Jr.

Vaughan went from a promising newcomer a year ago to a household name in a hurry behind her length and powerful right-hand. Vaughan was not only the District 3-5A Offensive Player of the Year, but was also the 2025 Press Pass Sports Offensive Player of the Year, knocking down 417 kills. Vaughan’s vision is equally deadly as she dished out 395 assists and added 226 digs with 52 blocks.

Anzley Davis, 5-5, libero, Sr.

A leader on the floor, Davis will have a major role and will help guide a young Lady Sandies squad. As a junior last season, Davis made her presence known on the defensive side by hitting the hardwood for 286 digs. Davis could also be very key when it came to the serving game for AHS, finishing the year with 45 aces.

Brenna Seideman, 6-1, opposite, Jr.

Seideman provides much size next to Vaughan and makes AHS very strong on the block at the net. As a next person up with the loss of a big senior class, Seideman will be expected to make a big leap in 2026 for the Lady Sandies and head coach Haleigh Burns. As a sophomore last season, Seideman did end the year with 40 kills and 18 blocks.
