District play heated up Friday and Saturday with some key games being played between teams around the Texas Panhandle and on the South Plains. Check out Randall’s win over Canyon in a District 4-4A showdown, Lubbock-Cooper’s victory against Lubbock Monterey in a District 3-5A clash and Fort Elliott remained unbeaten in District 1-1A after defeating Miami.

District 4-4A

In the first of two district meetings, it was Randall walking out of enemy territory with its biggest win to date earning a sweep of rival Canyon, 26-24, 25-22, 25-19, at the Joe Lombard Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Raiders (18-12 overall) are tied with West Plains in first place of District 4-4A at 4-0. The Lady Eagles (13-13) suffer their first loss in district and are now 3-1. 

The power game from Chloe Brown, Amber Matthews and Nevaeh Conner came up clutch for Randall. Brown knocked down 13 kills on 15 attacks and had 12 digs for a double-double. Conner went for 10 kills and nine digs and Matthews hammered home 10 kills and had three blocks at the net. Bennett Moore ran the offense with 16 assists and Kambree Gonzalez carried the defense thanks to 23 digs. 

Laney Jones did her part for Canyon ending the match with 13 digs and 12 kills for a double-double. London Gibson totaled nine digs and seven assists with Aiva Kerr getting 17 digs.

With a showdown looming with Randall on Tuesday, West Plains didn’t overlook Perryton breezing past the Rangerettes, 25-7, 25-10, 25-12, on Saturday. 

The Lady Wolves (22-9) remain tied atop District 4-4A with the Lady Wolves at 4-0. West Plains will visit arch-rival Randall with first place on the line at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Lady Wolves setter was able to celebrate with her teammates following the Perryton victory Saturday. Murillo dished out 17 assists against the Rangerettes (7-15, 0-4) putting her over 2,000 assists for her prolific career. Murillo had a strong day on the service line as well with three aces. Kynzie Ward led the attack with 13 kills and Aaniyah Kitchen went for eight. Idaly Sotelo and Sydney Garza controlled the back row combining for 27 digs. Sotelo had a game-high 15 and Garza totaled 12.

Pampa pulled off one of the bigger wins Saturday coming back from a two-set deficit to stun  Hereford in a five-set thriller, 22-25, 23-25, 26-24, 25-19, 16-14, at the McNeely Fieldhouse in Pampa. 

The Lady Harvesters close the week out 2-0 improving to 2-2 in District 4-4A and are now 16-8 overall. Hereford (13-14) is a game behind the Lady Harvesters at 1-3. 

Addison Bagwell was unstoppable in the five-set win for Pampa putting together a career performance with a triple-double. Bagwell finished the match doing everything running the offense with 23 assists, hitting the floor with 22 digs and leading the team with 14 kills. Teammates Haili Newton and Karina Gonzalez added double-double efforts. Newton had 17 digs with 10 kills and Gonzales was outstanding on defense with 40 digs to go with 12 kills. Myla Zarata added 35 digs.

Hereford’s Lilly Madrigal did all she could with 46 assists and 34 digs for a double-double. Teagan Thomas led the Whitefaces with 17 kills.

Dumas had no issues beating Borger, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16, at home Saturday.

Sophie Clements is having a huge year and that continued as the six-rotation player had 13 assists, 10 digs for a double-double and knocked down nine kills. Teammate Gabby Alvarez handed out 13 assists and was amazing at the serving line with seven aces. 

Borger drops to 9-15 overall and 0-4 in district. 

District 5-4A

Lubbock-Cooper Liberty stayed in control of District 5-4A dismantling Lubbock Estacado on Saturday, 25-11, 25-5, 25-11.

The Lady Patriots impressive second season as a program continues winning their 30th game of the year moving to 30-2 overall and are now 3-0 in district play. Estacado falls to 6-15 overall and 1-2 in league play.

Lexie Allgood paced Liberty with 10 kills and four digs.

Frenship Memorial is back in the win column beating Levelland in a five-set nail biter Saturday, 25-11, 25-22, 28-30, 23-25, 15-9.

The Lady Panthers improve to 18-7 overall and 2-1 in District 5-4. Levelland slips to 7-17, 1-3.

Makenzie Ivy had a career showing on the hardwood with 22 kills and nine digs. Ivy has nine gone over 200 career kills. Teammate Olivia Villegas added seven digs with six kills.

District 3-5A

The Lubbock-Cooper Lady Pirates picked up a big District 3-5A win Saturday getting by Lubbock Monterey 25-17, 27-25, 25-18, at the Plainsman Gym.

The Lady Pirates (17-9 overall) are now 5-2 in district while Monterey (20-11) fall to 4-3.

Broox Lopez handled the offensive duties with 35 assists and had six kills with five digs. Teammate Brylin Carlile chipped in 11 digs with eight kills and Brylyn Barnwell added eight kills and had three blocks on the front row.

Tascosa stayed in second place in District 3-5A with a sweep of Palo Duro on Friday, 25-9, 25-8, 25-6.

Presley Ward led the Lady Rebels with 12 kills and Berkley Harper registered 11 kills. Bennet Berryman totaled 21 digs with Libby Miller going for 24 assists. Tascosa is now 19-9 overall and 6-1 in district.

Lubbock Coronado stayed in a second-place tie with Tasocsa after sweeping Lubbock High 25-9, 25-13, 25-21, on Friday.

The Lady Mustangs are now 18-13 overall and 6-1 in District 3-5A. Malory Holdman hit 2,000 career assists Friday night with 21 assists against the Lady Westerners. Hailee Parrott Curtis paced Coronado with 21 kills and nine digs.

In one other game, Plainview defeated Caprock 22-25, 25-19, 25-20, 27-25.

District 1-1A

Fort Elliott took over sole possession of first place in District 1-1A sweeping Miami on Saturday, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18.

The Lady Cougars (18-6) sit all alone atop the league standings at 4-0. The Lady Warriors (11-6) are now 3-1.

Fort Elliott’s Jaycee Sewell had 25 assists in the match, and Aliyah McCarter totaled 11 kills. Brylie Hand and McCauley Jernigan were big defensively combining for 51 digs and Ali Mahler added 19 digs. Miami’s Bentley Brooks had a team-best 21 digs and Scarlett Pillars led the team with seven kills.

In other District 1-1A matches, Kelton beat Shamrock in four sets (22-25, 25-13, 25-13, 25-18), Darrouzett defeated Channing (25-5, 25-11, 25-9) and Wildorado whipped White Deer (25-15, 25-11, 25-13).

San Jacinto Christian Academy kept on cruising through TAPPS District 1-2A with a 25-9, 25-10, 25-13, sweep against Lubbock Christ The King. The Lady Patriots improve to 23-3 overall and 4-0. Alayna Daniel put together a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs. Blayne Robison quarterbacked the offense with 23 assissts adding five aces and Channing Star registered three blocks.

Amarillo High stepped out of District 3-5A play and beat Bushland 25-21, 25-10, 21-25, 25-16. The Lady Sandies improve to 21-9 overall on the year. Harper Vaughn had 16 kills and 12 assists for a double-double. Kinsler Hanson added 13 kills.

Frenship swept Shallowater on Saturday, 25-18, 25-17, 25-22. The Lady Tigers close the non-district schedule at 20-12. Reese Roberts paced Frenship with 14 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Teammate Bliss Dane also had a double-double with 11 digs and 10 kills and Emma Harrell hit the floor for 19 digs. Shallowater falls to 21-9.

Sanford-Fritch downed Dimmitt on Saturday with a 25-9, 25-14, 25-17, sweep. Emma Williams totaled 11 kills and Sydney Riggle passed around 11 assists.

Dalhart remains strong knocking off Lubbock Talkington 25-11, 25-21, 25-21. The Lady Wolves close out non-district play with a 24-5-2 record. Kammi Maddox had 14 kills with 18 assists for a double-double. Kaetlin Sundvahl also had a double-double with 14 assists and 12 kills.

Idalou beat Highland Park 25-8, 25-13, 25-15, on Saturday. Highland Park falls to 10-16 overall. Despite the loss, Tylar Ashley led the Lady Hornets with 14 assists.
