Tarleton continues to dominate
The No. 4-ranked Tarleton Texans passed a big hurdle taking down Angelo State 30-13 on Saturday night at the Lonn Reisman Athletic Complex at Memorial Stadium.
The Texans (5-0, 3-0) have won 11 straight Lone Star Conference games dating back to last season. The No. 23-ranked Rams lose their first game of the year, falling to 4-1, 2-1.
Tarleton broke the game open in the second half outscoring ASU 27-7.
ENMU wins thriller at MSU-Texas
Eastern New Mexico squandered a 17-3 halftime lead only to rally for a huge 27-24 win at MSU-Texas on Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
The win for the Greyhounds was vital for any postseason hopes ENMU had this season, improving to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in the LSC.
After allowing the Mustangs to score 21 unanswered in the third quarter, taking a 24-17 lead, ENMU didn’t lose its composure.
Running back Johnny Smith tied the game, 24-24 on a 2-yard run with 10:14 left in the contest.
Later, ENMU kicker Tyler Vargas nailed a 23-yard field goal for the eventual game-winner with 3:21 remaining.
Lions roar past Javelinas
It was all Texas A&M-Commerce 33-6 over rival Texas A&M-Kingsville at Javelinas Stadium in Kingsville on Saturday.
The Lions stay unbeaten in the LSC at 2-0 and are 4-1 overall, bouncing back after an awful loss at Colorado State-Pueblo last week.
After a close first half, TAMC broke the game open in the second half with 21 unanswered third quarter points to get their eighth consecutive win over the Javelinas. TAMK’s woes continue at 1-4 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Mustangs stun Falcons
Western New Mexico earned its first win of the year by downing UT Permian Basin at home 47-28 win at home Saturday.
Mustangs coach Frank Tristan earns his first victory with the Mustangs football program.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak to start the year, moving the Mustangs to 1-4, 1-1.
UTPB lost four fumbles, and threw an interception for five turnovers in defeat.
WT survives Homecoming
The Buffs put up 34 halftime points and made it standup in a 48-38 win over Central Washington on Saturday on J Ferg Field at Buffalo Stadium.
The Wildcats trailed 48–17 in the third quarter but did make a game of it scoring 21 fourth quarter points, pulling to within 10. It’s as close as CWU could do in its rally.
The Buffs are 4-1 on the year for the first time since 2013.
Running back Jarrod Compton ran for a career-best 115 yards on 17 carries with two scores.

Stars of week 5
Daniel McCants, Tarleton, Sr. RB
McCants scored on the Texans opening possession on a 48-yard scamper helping set the tone in a 30-13 win. McCants went on to have a stellar evening on the ground, putting up 158 yards on 23 attempts.
Jaylon Hodge, A&M-Commerce, Jr. DL
What a night it was for the Lions defense. Hodge was in the Javelinas backfield all night making seven tackles with two sacks and two forced fumbles.
Paul Terry, E. New Mexico, Sr. RB
Each week Paul Terry seems to only get stronger. The Greyhound workhorse added to his LSC rushing lead, chewing up 225 yards against MSU-Texas on 40 carries with a touchdown. Through five games, Terry has 887 yards with five total TDs.
Juwan McCall, W. Texas A&M, Sr. WR
McCall became the first WT receiver since 2014 to go over the 100-yard mark in receiving yards in back-to-back games.
McCall hauled in seven cathes for 132 yards that included a 50-yard touchdown snag.
CJ Fowler, W. New Mexico, Jr. QB
The league’s passing leader had a great outing for the Mustangs, helping lead WNM to its first win of the year.
Fowler was 16 of 30 for 198 yards with three touchdowns.
