Dalhart stays undefeated by downing Spearman
The Dalhart Golden Wolves keep on quietly winning games.
Dalhart stayed unbeaten with another strong effort on both sides of the ball to knock off Spearman 22-10 on the road at Lynx Stadium on Friday night.
The Golden Wolves continue to be a surprise team in 2023 thanks to a 3-0 start. Spearman falls to 1-2.
The two teams tussled throughout the first half with Dalhart holding a tight 14-10 lead at the half. In the second half, the Golden Wolves were able to add a score on a Kyler Read 2-yard score. Spearman off the board to get the win and stay undefeated. Read overcame two interceptions going 15-of-20 for 220 yards with a pair of touchdown passes. Read also ran for 87 yards with another score.
Hunter Trusler tacked on 69 yards rushing and had a receiving TD. Spearman’s JP Carbajal rushed for 161 yards with the teams only touchdown to lead the Lynx.
Wellington blanks River RoadÂ
The Wellington Skyrockets used a strong second half to roll over River Road with a 42-0 shutout win at Wildcats Stadium on Friday.
This game was very close at half with the Skyrockets leading 8-0 after a Travon Lewis 23-yard scamper for a score. But the second half was a completely different story. Wellington was able to wear down the Wildcats with a dominating effort outscoring River Road 34-0 in the final 24 minutes.
Wellington compiled 540 yards of offense behind 384 rushing yards while holding River Road to 141 total yards. Lewis led a complete team rushing attack carrying the ball 13 times 108 yards with a TD. Dakota Marshall tacked on 81 yards on eight carries and Gatlin Guy chipped in with 72 yards on eight carries with a TD. Wellington quarterback Carson Tarver threw for 137 yards on 9-of-14 passing with a pair of scores while rushing for another touchdown on 59 yards.
Wellington moves to 2-1 on the year. River Road is still looking for its first win dropping to 0-3.
Bushland soars past ChildressÂ
The Bushland Falcons are back in the win column after suffering their first loss of the season last week at the hands of Canadian.
The Falcons were able to pull away from Childress in the first half and go on for a convincing 42-13 win at Fair Park Stadium on Friday night.
The Bobcats suffer their first loss on the year falling to 2-1. Bushland is now 2-1 on the year.
The Falcons offense had to take advantage of opportunities only running 34 offensive plays in this contest. Quarterback Dawson Jaco made that happen by going 10-of-16 for 221 yards with three touchdowns, and in a very rare occurrence used his feet to break loose for a 66-yard TD scamper. Kade Gavina was Jaco’s favorite weapon on the night. Gavina torched the Childress secondary hauling in three catches for 173 yards, averaging 57 yards a catch, with two touchdowns. Teammate Ty Purcell caught a 39-yard touchdown on a reverse pass and added an interception on defense.
The Bushland defense did its job holding the Bobcat offense to 184 yards and only 62 rushing yards.
Tulia edges Sanford-Fritch
The Tulia Hornets are in the win column for the first time in 2023 by hanging on to grab a 30-27 win over Sanford-Fritch at Younger Field in Tulia on Friday.
The Hornets (1-2) jumped out to a 24-0 first quarter lead, however, the Eagles (0-3) didn’t go away cutting the deficit down to to three but were never able to claim the lead.
Tulia running back Ethaniel Trevino had a monster outing chewing up the Eagles defense for 245 yards on the ground on 24 carries with a touchdown. Quarterback David Molina did his part going 10-of-17 for 157 yards with two scores to help out in the victory.
Canadian handles Elk City, Okla.Â
The No. 1-ranked Canadian Wildcats gained a measure of revenge by dominating Elk. City, Okla., 45-19, to stay undefeated on Friday night at Wildcats Stadium.
The Elks (2-1) had knocked off Canadian in an overtime thriller a year ago, 37-36.
This matchup wasn’t anything like last year’s as Canadian took full control in the second quarter by scoring 17 unanswered points to close the half. The Wildcats (3-0) led 14-12 in the second before Canadian capitalized on a 60-yard drive on a 1-yard score by running back Kaden Crooks extending the advantage, 21-12. On the ensuing possession, the Wildcats took their first double-digit lead and never looked back when quarterback Camren Cavalier hit Luke Flowers for a 16-yard pitch and catch giving Canadian full control 28-12.
The Wildcat offense ended up with 413 total yards led by Cavalier’s 16-of-21 passing for 225 yards with three scores. Flowers had seven catches for 128 yards with a pair of TDs and Crooks chewed up 115 yards rushing on 17 carries with two touchdowns.
Canadian linebacker Wyatt Davis led a strong defensive effort racking up 18 tackles, four of those solo, a sack with a forced fumble.
