Tuesday night was highlighted by some showcase games with major impacts across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Here’s a recap of all the action that included Amarillo High’s season sweep of rival Tascosa, Childress’ big home win against Idalou and Shamrock knocking off Kelton.
District 3-5A
The Amarillo High Lady Sandies kept up their proud tradition that dates back decades rolling over arch-rival Tascosa in a three-set sweep, 25-19, 25-21, 25-15, on Tuesday night at the AHS Activity Center.
The Lady Sandies (28-8 overall) continue to be the standard when it comes to 5A volleyball in the Texas Panhandle and South Plains capturing at least a share of the District 3-5A championship with the win. The Lady Sandies can clinch the outright league title once again when they play at Lubbock Monterey on Friday. The Lady Sandies are now a perfect 14-0 in league play which also carries on an impressive 65 straight league wins dating back to 2020.
“I’m incredibly proud of this group,” AHS head coach Haleigh Burns said. “Clinching a share of the district title right now and getting a sweep over a really good Tascosa team is a huge accomplishment. This team has worked so hard to earn this everyday in practice. They’ve continued to grow and get better and play for each other. It’s special to see the hard work pay off.”

The Lady Sandies were in control the entire match against the Lady Rebels (24-10), who are still secure in second place in the district at 11-2. Harper Vaughn, Grace Hughes and Kinsler Hanson were all big on the front row which was a big difference in the match as the trio combined for 29 kills.
Vaughn, a sensational sophomore, hammered home a team-best 11 kills with Hughes and Hanson chipping in with nine. On top of Vaughn’s power ability, she also showed her versatility with a magnificent effort handing out 14 assists, and getting 12 digs for a rare triple-double while knocking down six blocks at the net. Bennett Rea was right behind Vaughn leading AHS with a team-high 18 assists and hit the floor for 12 digs for a double-double and Hanson 12 digs and five blocks.
“Harper was phenomenal,” Burns said. “She’s become a steady presence, not just in her stats but the way she competes and shows up for her team. To come together and put a triple-double out there in a match like this says everything about her versatility and how much she means to this team. She’s one of those players who makes everyone around her better.”
Tascosa’s Berkley Harper had seven kills and Bennet Berryman did her job on defense with 25 digs.
Lubbock-Cooper punched a ticket to the UIL Class 5A Division II playoffs with a sweep of Lubbock High 25-13, 25-15, 25-17, on Tuesday. The Lady Pirates (22-10) are now 10-3 sitting in third place in District 3-5A. Broox Lopez handed out 34 assists in the win against the Lady Westerners with five digs. Bry Carlile had 12 kills and Haley McCallick added 10 kills.
Lubbock Coronado was able to keep pace with Lubbock-Cooper thanks to a sweep of Plainview 25-19, 25-11, 25-23. The Lady Mustangs are right behind Lubbock-Cooper in the standings at 9-4 and 20-16 overall. Addison Brown was tremendous on defense in the win against the Lady Bulldogs with 31 digs. Teammate Malory Holdman finished with 22 assists and nine digs.
In one other district match, Caprock swept Palo Duro 25-20, 25-23, 25-16, on Tuesday. Janelle Ozuna led Caprock with 18 digs and six aces. Teammate Marlene Ramirez had 19 assists with three aces. Caprock is now 14-17 on the year and 3-11 in district action.
District 4-4A
West Plains was able to gain a game in the district standings thanks to a sweep of Perryton (25-14, 25-20, 25-14) and a Canyon win over Randall on Tuesday night.
The Lady Wolves (27-11 overall) stay tied with Canyon at for second place in District 4-4A at 9-2 just one game behind Randall (24-13, 10-1).
Bella Wineberg paced the offense with 17 assists followed by Cecilia Murillo’s 14. Aaniyah Kitchen slammed down 10 kills and added three blocks while Kynzie Ward added nine kills.
Dumas is inching closer to that fourth and final playoff spot in District 4-4A thanks to a win against Borger on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18. The Demonettes (20-17) improve to 7-4 in the league standings and need just one more win to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot. Haley Winegarner did the damage against Borger with 12 kills. Sophie Clements led the way with 22 assists and 13 digs for a double-double and added seven aces.
Hereford kept its playoff hopes alive with a home win against Pampa, 25-13, 25-15, 25-21. The Lady Whitefaces push their record to 16-18 overall and 4-7 in district play. Lilly Madrigal was spectacular against the Lady Harvesters earning a double-double with 34 assists and 23 digs.
District 5-4A
It was a very special night for Lubbock-Cooper Liberty head coach Katelyn Anderson during the Lady Patriots sweep of Lubbock Estacado 25-3, 25-7, 25-9, during a District 5-4A match.
Anderson was celebrated by her team and fans following the match for her 100th win of her young career. Anderson was also happy to see that her Lady Patriots were able to clinch at least a share of the District 5-4A championship by staying undefeated in the league at 10-0 while moving to an impressive 37-2 overall.
Campbell Beeler had a solid outing for Liberty with eight kills and nine digs. Teammate Lexie Allgood also had eight kills and Karson Killham chipped in with 18 assists.
Frenship Memorial earned a huge accomplishment in year one as a program by clinching a playoff berth during a win against Levelland on Tuesday, 25-19, 25-20, 27-25. The Lady Panthers are all alone in second place of the district at 7-2 and 23-8 overall. Bradleigh Wicks paced Memorial with nine digs and a pair of aces. Teammate Brooklynn Davis went for 11 assists and four aces and Anglie Le added seven kills with six digs.
District 1-3A
It was a quick night of work for Dalhart on Tuesday. The Lady Wolves went on the road and took care of Dimmitt 25-13, 25-11, 25-8. The Lady Wolves (29-6-2) are postseason bound sitting in second place behind Bushland at 5-1. Kammi Maddox registered a double-double with 12 kills and 10 assists. Kaetlin Sundvahl had 21 assists and Kirsten Foust served up four aces.
Friona stayed in third place with a victory at River Road, 25-18, 26-24, 27-25. The Squaws improve to 19-7 on the season and 3-3 in the league. Aubrey Bunker was the difference in this match for Friona netting a double-double with 27 digs and 20 kills.
District 2-3A
Childress pulled off a big win at home on Tuesday taking down Idalou, 25-18, 25-23, 23-25, 25-10. The win puts the Lady Bobcats (17-18) into a second place tie with the Lady Wildcats (21-14) at 4-2 in the league. Ava Everage stepped up with a big performance on the front row using her powerful arm for 12 kills and knocked down five blocks. Journey Prince added nine kills and a pair of blocks with teammate Kinley Galligan showing strong defense getting 17 digs.
Shallowater was able to gain a two-game district lead thanks to the Childress win and a sweep of Littlefield, 25-8, 25-14, 25-10, on Tuesday. The Fillies are inching closer to a league title moving to 7-0 in District 2-3A and 29-9 overall. Standout Emma Clawson once again was huge at the net with 16 kills. Clawson was setup nicely by Anniston Vanatta who handed out 17 assists.
In one other district match Tuesday, Lubbock Talkington beat Tulia, 25-14, 19-25, 25-18, 23-25, 15-12.
District 1-2A
The Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles stayed all alone in first place of District 1-2A getting a three-set sweep of Highland Park, 25-10, 25-8, 25-16, on Tuesday night. Emma Williams and Allison Lovejoy ran the offense to near perfection. Lovejoy handed out 19 assists on the night with Williams benefiting with a game-high 16 kills. Teammate Morgan Lucero did the back row dirty work with 10 digs. Highland Park’s Kaitlin Lucas tallied 18 digs and Jada Flores had six kills. The Lady Eagles move to 19-8 overall and 4-0 in District 1-2A. The Lady Hornets slip to 11-21, 1-3.
Vega bounced back from a loss to Sanford-Fritch on Friday, defending home court with a sweep of West Texas High on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-17, 26-24. The Lady Longhorns (16-20) stay a game behind the Lady Eagles for first place in District 1-2A at 3-1. The Lady Comanches are now 6-17, 0-4. Blakely Brorman put together a double-double for Vega with 12 assists and 11 digs. Teammate Madelynn Wellman powered down nine kills.
District 1-1A
In one of the bigger wins Tuesday, Shamrock was able to keep itself in the playoff chase downing Kelton at home, 18-25, 25-19, 25-18, 25-23, on Tuesday. With the win, the Lady Irish (12-9) remain tied with Wildorado a game back of Kelton for the final playoff spot at 6-5. Addi Jernigan was clutch for Shamrock in the victory over the Lady Lions (14-4, 7-4) totaling 12 digs with seven kills. Teammate Ruby Baggett added 13 digs and Rubi Lopez led the team with 16 digs.
In two other scores, Wildorado swept White Deer, 25-9, 25-12, 25-13. The Lady Mustangs (9-19) are tied for the final playoff spot with Shamrock at 6-5, and Darrouzett defeated Channing 25-5, 25-11, 25-11.
Tuesday’s district quick hits
The Frenship Lady Tigers rebounded from a loss on Saturday by going on the road and sweeping San Angelo Central 25-21, 25-12, 25-23. The Lady Tigers (25-14) have clinched a playoff spot out of District 2-6A sitting at 5-2. Senior standout Bliss Dane went for a double-double in the win with 19 kills and 10 digs. Hana Hutcheson added 16 assists with nine digs.
San Jacinto Christian Academy kept on rolling defeating Ascension Academy, 25-3, 25-6, 25-6. Blayne Robison totaled 21 assists and nine aces. Alayna Daniel knocked down 12 kills. The Lady Patriots (29-5) remain in second place of TAPPS District 1-2A at 11-1.
