Caprock crushes Pampa for first win

After a scoreless first quarter which extended their offensive troubles, the Caprock Longhorns found their offense on the road.

Caprock scored 19 unanswered points in the second quarter to take control of the game and roll over Pampa 33-8 at Zach Thomas Stadium. The Longhorns (1-2) scored their first win of the season after not scoring a touchdown since their first offensive possession of the year.

Juan De La Cruz and Xavier Vargas ran for touchdowns in the second quarter for Caprock, and De La Cruz ran for a pair of short scores. Stevan Ulibarri threw for one touchdown and ran for another.

Caprock’s defense has been tough each of the past two weeks, and the Longhorns only allowed Pampa (1-2) 85 total yards of offense.

Amarillo High drops shootout to Midland

If nothing else, the Amarillo High Sandies have been entertaining through two complete games this season.

For the second straight game at Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday night, the Sandies and their opponents both scored over 40 points. However, this time the outcome wasn’t as favorable.

Amarillo High’s offense remained prolific, but the Sandies couldn’t shut down Midland High’s running game and suffered their first defeat of the season, 49-42.

Last week, the Sandies (1-1) opened their home schedule by surviving a 48-45 shootout against San Angelo Central. This week, they weren’t nearly as fortunate against Central’s fellow District 2-6A school Midland (2-1).

The Sandies jumped out to a 14-0 lead before Midland’s offense came alive. Amarillo High’s Jett Lopez completed 22-of-35 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns and Bryson Brown had seven catches for 136 yards to lead the passing game. Jude Dunavin ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns.

Problem was that Amarillo High’s defense gave up 411 yards rushing.

Randall routs Perryton

The Randall Raiders kept rolling offensively, using a balanced attack to crush Perryton 49-19 and stay undefeated.

Randall (3-0) made a statement early, taking a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on a pair of long touchdown runs by Dylan Ray and Kaison Benton. Ray continued to put up big numbers, running for 168 yards and two touchdowns on only 15 carries.

Benton continued improving at quarterback, completing 13-of-18 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns, including a pair of scores to Collin Miller. Everything seemed to be working offensively for the Raiders, who had 457 yards of offense.
Perryton fell to 1-2.

Hereford grinds past Plainview

Hereford overcame an early deficit on the road to turn things on offensively and beat Plainview 26-16 to stay unbeaten on the season.

The Whitefaces (3-0) fell behind after Plainview (1-2) completed a 66-yard pass for a score in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter. But Hereford took a 12-7 halftime lead on a 3-yard touchdown run by Kalub Ramirez and a 28-yard touchdown pass from Ramirez to Tell Bryant and never trailed again.

Ramirez completed 12-of-17 passes for 255 yards and a pair of touchdowns to Bryant, who had five catches for 111 yards. Brylyn Lopez ran for 114 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries.

West Plains rolls over Estacado

West Plains appears to be hitting stride after a season-opening loss, as the Wolves had another dominant performance in routing Lubbock Estacado 38-7 in their first game of the season at Happy State Bank Stadium.

Quarterback Reid Macon continued to show up for West Plains (2-1), as he completed 18-of-26 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score.

Kane Tinsley-White was Macon’s favorite target, with four catches for 110 yards and a touchdown.

Slade Russell was an outstanding complement running the ball with 158 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries.

Brody Tupin and Tryston Hernandez both had 10 tackles for the Wolves.

Borger picks up first win at Big Spring

Borger’s offense got untracked big time on the road, as the Bulldogs got their first win at Big Spring, 45-28.

Dominick Esparza led Borger (1-2) rushing the ball with 142 yards and a touchdown on only six carries. But defense may have been the key for the Bulldogs, who forced five turnovers, including recovering four fumbles.
