McLean streak comes to an end

McLean’s 18-game win streak dating back to last year came to an end at the hands of the Balmorhea Bears Friday night. The No. 8 Bears snapped the state’s third longest streak jumping out to a surprising 32-0 lead, and surviving for a 48-35 victory. The Tigers win streak was This is the first loss for the defending Class 1A Division state champions since they fell to Happy in a state quarterfinal, 86-40, on Dec. 2, 2017.

And then there was one

White Deer‘s 51-6 win against Silverton, along with McLean’s loss, means the Bucks are the only Six-man team standing with an unbeaten record in the Texas Panhandle. It has been a great start to the year for the Bucks, who are averaging 52.7 points a game.

State semifinal preview?

White Deer will put its perfect 4-0 record on the line in a matchup of Top 10 teams Thursday night in Petersburg. The No. 2-ranked Bucks take on undefeated and No. 5-ranked Borden County (4-0) out of Region 2. White Deer hasn’t backed down to a challenge on its schedule. Thursday’s game is certain to give coach Justin Rucker and his team a great measuring stick of where the program is at.

Happy stays hot

Make it three straight wins for the Cowboys. The running game was on point in this matchup against Follett. The Cowboys (3-1) had four different players find the endzone on the ground as they rushed for a team total of 250 yards during a 45-0 shutout over the Panthers.

Wildorado earns wild W

The Mustangs looked doomed, trailing Cotton Center by 15 points with two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

However, Wildorado never quit and with the game tied with 30 seconds to play, running back Harris Albracht broke loose for a 30-yard touchdown making the comeback complete with a thrilling 62-55 win. Wildorado, which is playing an outlaw schedule, moves to 3-0 as well as improving to 2-0 against varsity teams.

Nazareth finds the win column 

It took longer than they wanted it to, but the Nazareth Swifts picked up their first win of the season 56-6 against Morton on Friday. The Swifts were led offensively by Luke Betzen who ran for 122 yards and three touchdowns while adding another 71 yards through the air.
