The Panhandle Panthers slowed down the Vega Longhorns for a convincing 49-6 at Longhorn Stadium Friday night.
It was a highly anticipated game for both teams–seeing as though each was unbeaten at the coin toss.
However, the Panthers rose to the occasion as they shut down an electric Vega offense led by senior dual-threat quarterback Carson Kirkland. Vega entered the contest leading the entire state with 65.6 a game.
But with the solid play of the Panthers defense, the Longhorns offense stumbled totaling 193 yards.
The Panther offense sparked when freshman receiver Landyn Hack broke a 47 yard run for a touchdown–and the carnage ensued. Senior running back Houston Heck had a career game, rushing for 213 yards on 21 attempts, with two touchdowns.
–67 yards through the air and 126 rushing.
Panhandle stays unbeaten at 4-0 while Vega falls to 3-1 on the year.

Wellington takes advantage of miscues in win over WT High
Wellington scored all 28 points off four West Texas High turnovers to nab a 28-12 victory on Friday night at Powell Field in Wellington.
The Skyrockets bounce back from their first loss of the year last week to Abernathy to improve to 3-1.
WT High falls to 2-2.
Wellington’s run game of Jaden Combs and Marc Ramirez did damage combining for 227 yards with a pair of TDs.
Not only did the Comanches have costly turnovers, WT High finished with 233 total yards.

Bushland outlasts Perryton
Bushland stayed unbeaten after a Friday night face-off against the Perryton Rangers.
The Falcons got ahead in this one with a big push in the second half, eventually pulling away for a 38-13 win.
Bushland jumped out fast scoring the games first 17 points.
Perryton began the second half on a run of its own, finding the end zone on two consecutive possessions, cutting the deficit 17-13.
Bushland head coach Jimmy Thomas turned once again to his son and quarterback Jared Thomas.
Jared threw three straight 60-yard touchdown passes, as Bushland scored 21 unanswered to extend the lead 38-13 just before the end of the third quarter.
Thomas ended the game with 353 yards in the air, throwing for four touchdowns.
For the Rangers, it was the running game that impressed, compiling 285 yards on the ground on 41 attempts. Perryton (1-3) was led by sophomore running back who picked up 168 yards on 17 carries.

Canadian trounces Sanford-Fritch
Canadian gets its second straight shutout on the road, blanking Sanford-Fritch 54-0.
Canadian’s run game was a force to be reckoned with finishing the night with 216 yards on the ground. Landon Smith was the leading back for the No. 3 Wildcats rushing for 85 yards and finding the end zone twice.
Quarterback Grant McCook was a perfect 10 of 10 passing for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Wildcat defense has been equally impressive–not allowing a point in eight quarters.
Gruver takes down Irish
Jalin Conyers was too hard for Shamrock to handle in a 51-7 Greyhounds Homecoming win on Friday night.
Conyers was 10 of 12 for 140 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 160 yards and two more touchdowns.
Gruver (3-1) held the Irish to 11 passing yards and 162 yards for the game.
Shamrock is now 1-3.
Wheeler routes Highland Park
Hesston Marshall was a one man machine during Wheeler’s 49-8 blowout win over Highland Park on Friday night at Hornets Stadium.
Marshall stampeded for 170 yards on 17 carries with five touchdowns. He also hauled in five catches for 108 yards.
The Mustangs are 3-1 overall. The Hornets drop to 2-2.
Dimmitt wins first game of year
The Dimmitt Bobcats picked up their first win of the year by sliding past Crosbyton 31-21 on Friday.
Bobcat running back Trey Aguero led the way rushing for 238 yards with three touchdowns.
Quarterback Mario Pina tossed two touchdowns and had 208 yards passing.
