WTAMU volleyball defends home court with conference sweep, coach Brittany Harry gets 300th career win

The No. 8-ranked West Texas A&M volleyball team continued to feast on Lone Star Conference competition on Friday and Saturday at the WTAMU Fieldhouse.

Behind the energy of great home crowds, the Lady Buffs kept riding that season-long momentum defending their home court with sweeps of St. Edward’s and St. Mary’s

The Lady Buffs took down the Hilltoppers to open the homestand with a three-set sweep Friday, 25-18, 25-22, 25-14. On Saturday, WTAMU rolled past the Rattlers 25-12, 25-14, 25-23.

The Lady Buffs stay red hot winners of 11 straight matches. The Lady Buffs are now 17-3 overall and a perfect 10-0 to lead the LSC.

WTAMU continues LSC play hosting Cameron at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Harry gets career win No. 300 

On Friday night, Lady Buff first-year head coach celebrated her 300th career victory.

Harry, the 2022 LSC Coach of the Year, growing the Texas A&M International volleyball program is now 301-76 all-time in 15 years as a head coach.

The #8 Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M ran their win streak to 10 matches on Friday night as head coach Brittany Harry claimed her 300th career victory in a Lone Star Conference sweep over the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers (25-18, 25-22, 25-14) at the WTAMU Fieldhouse “The Box” on Pain the Floor Pink night in Canyon.

Friday’s game 

WTAMU moved to 19-1 all-time against SEU and have now won 13 straight over the Hilltoppers following Friday’s sweep.

The Lady Buffs ended the night with 43 kills on 100 swings with 10 errors for an attack percentage of .330 to go along with 42 assists, four aces, 44 digs and five blocks.

Emma Becker and Camy Jones led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as they finished with 11 kills each, taking 46 total swings with just one combined error.

Ainsley Malis paced the WT offense with 23 assists and 13 digs for a double-double.

Saturday’s game 

With a lopsided sweep of St. Mary’s, the Lady Buffs have now won the last 20 meetings against the Rattlers and are 26-2 since the series began in 1999.

Amarillo High graduate and Texas Tech transfer Currie Marusak had a great effort on the floor leading the Lady Buffs with 10 kills on 21 swings with three errors for an attack percentage of .333 to go along with one dig and a block.

Hereford graduate Taytum Stow showed used her 6-foot-3 size at the net with seven kills while registering five blocks.

Malis dished out a team-high 14 assists to go along with 10 digs for a double-double while Canyon grad Bryli Contreras led the way in the back row with 12 digs.

West Texas A&M finished the afternoon with 45 kills on 99 swings with 18 attack errors to hit .273 as a team with 41 assists, seven aces, 51 digs and seven blocks.
