Sod Squad take series from Twins in 15-4 rout

The Amarillo Sod Squad jumped on Texarkana pitching thanks to a five-run first inning and kept the runs coming during a 15-4 blowout win in front of 1,574 fans at Hodgetown on Thursday night.

The Sod Squad take two-of-three from the Twins in the series, while also beating Texarkana (4-11 overall) in four of the last six meetings.

The Sod Squad improve to 7-5 overall, and will continue their home schedule with Frisco with the first of a three-game set starting at 7:05 p.m. Friday night.

Amarillo attacked Texarkana starter Carson Bailey in the first inning. David Marcano doubled home Wesley Toups for the games opening run. Later in the inning Ben Rozenblum doubled to the left field gap plating Marcano, and his twin brother Julio Marcano extending the advantage, 3-0.

The Sod Squad exploded for another five-run inning in the bottom of the sixth highlighted by a Mike Rosario grand slam to right field, pushing the lead to 10-2.

Rosario finished the night 2-for-4 with five RBIs. Julio Marcano was also 2-for-4 with four RBIs including a 3-run homer, while Rozenblum went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs.

Sod Dogs blanked at Tulsa

The Amarillo Sod Dogs were unable to pull off the sweep of the Tulsa Drillers, falling 8-0 on the road Thursday night.

However, the Sod Dogs (9-6 overall) did take 2-of-3 from Tulsa in the series.

The Sod Dogs stay on the road to open the first of a three-game against the Round Rock Hairy Men at 7:05 p.m. Friday night.
