Randall girls highlight West Texas A&M Winter Freeze Soccer Tournament

The Randall Lady Raiders are off to a fast start during the opening week of the high school soccer season.

Randall (4-0 overall) dominated the competition boasting a 3-0 mark on at the West Texas A&M Freeze Tournament from Thursday to Saturday.

The Lady Raiders didn’t allow a goal the entire three days while outscoring Burkburnett, Plainview and Lubbock High by a 12-0 margin. Randall blanked Burkburnett 4-0 to open play on Thursday, then levelled Plainview 7-0 on Friday, followed by a hard fought 1-0 shutout of LHS on Saturday.

Rylee Bennett had a huge weekend as the wingback had an eye-opening four goals with an assist against Plainview and netted the lone goal against LHS in the 79th minute to help the Lady Raiders get the 1-0 win. Teammate Malorie Massengale tacked on three goals over the weekend with an assist and Jani Contreras was stellar in the net nabbing eight total saves.

In their opening season as a program, the West Plains Lady Wolves are turning heads. The Lady Wolves (4-1) went 2-1 during the tournament knocking off Tascosa 3-0, shutting out Palo Duro 5-0 before falling to a very good Lubbock-Cooper squad, 1-0. Mackenzie Hickman led West Plains over the three days scoring two goals with two assists. Teammate Sydney Lanigan added a goal with two assists against Tascosa.

Speaking of the Lady Rebels, Tascosa (2-2) bounced back from a loss to West Plains by by beating Perryton 5-0 on Friday and sneaking past Canyon 2-1 on Saturday. Selena Martinez had two goals and two assists over the three days as teammate Maren Peck tacked on two goals as well.

Palo Duro boys team impresses in Frisco

The Palo Duro Dons had a fantastic showing going undefeated at the Dr. Pink Tournament in Frisco.

The Dons (4-0 overall) went 3-0 at the competitive tournament blanking Panther Creek 3-0, holding off Mount Pleasant 2-1, and then grabbed a 3-0 blanking of John Paul II. University of Rio Grande Valley signee and Palo Duro senior standout Jamie Carrillo had a total of four goals over the weekend, netting two of those in the victory against Panther Creek. Danny Garcia also had a solid outing with three total goals.
