District 3-5A

Amarillo High, Tascosa clinch postseason berths 

Both Amarillo High and Tascosa are headed to the Class 5A playoffs after earning spots in the postseason on Tuesday night.

The Lady Sandies eased past Caprock to open up the second half of District 3-5A play with a 25-12, 25-11, 25-19, victory, while the Lady Rebels took down Plainview 25-12, 25-12, 25-13.

AHS (31-5 overall) runs its district win streak to 35 straight games and stays in total control of first place in the league at 5-0. Tascosa (25-13) is in second at 4-1. Caprock (17-15) and Plainview (16-15-1) are tied for the fourth and final playoff spot at 1-4 with three regular season games remaining.

In the win over Caprock, Jaycie Scott had a big Senior Night as Scott led the Lady Sandies with nine kills with two aces. Blair Pennington went for 19 assists and seven digs and Claire Fansler was great up front with three blocks.

During Tascosa’s win over Plainview, Lady Rebel setter Meredith Sanning was the story thanks to a double-double effort. Sanning dished out 31 assists and hit the floor for 11 digs on defense.

District 4-4A

West Plains holds off rival Canyon in five-sets 

Before their showdown with Randall on Saturday, West Plains Lady Wolves had to get past a major battle with arch-rival Canyon, and though it wasn’t easy by any means, the Lady Wolves survived the scare.

West Plains went up in the first two sets 25-21, 25-16, only to see the Lady Eagles rally back taking the next two, 25-20, 25-21, until the Lady Wolves were able to claim the fifth set and the win, 15-8.

Senior Jayli Franklin did all she could in the victory to lead with West Plains with a massive effort of 25 digs and 17 kills for a double-double. Teammate McCall Sims was stellar on the defensive side scooping up 41 digs and the offense was paced by Emerson Castillo with 23 assists followed by CC Murillo’s 22 handouts.

Canyon’s Laney Jones left it all on the court with 19 digs to go with 11 assists for a double-double and Landri Jay tallied a team-high 39 digs. Sydnee Winfrey also played well with nine kills and was great up front with eight blocks.

West Plains (33-7) clinches a spot in the Class 4A playoffs with the victory. The Lady Wolves move to 9-1 in District 4-4A and can grab a share of the league lead with a home win over Randall on Saturday.

Canyon stays all alone in fourth place at 5-5 in district while falling to 18-19 overall.

Randall is playoff bound 

The No. 1-ranked Randall Lady Raiders kept on rolling with a 25-11, 25-12, 25-16, win against Dumas.

The Lady Raiders, the defending UIL Class 4A state champions, are headed back to the playoffs to defend their crown improving to 34-3 overall and 10-0 in district. Randall also extends its District 4-4A win streak to 24 straight dating back to last year.

Dumas (18-23) drops to 3-7 in district and is two games behind Canyon for the fourth and final playoff berth with four games remaining.

Sidney Soria had a superb night against the Demonettes with 36 assists, nine digs and three kills. Jordyn Gove led the team with 15 kills and eight digs and Brooke Henderson added 11 digs with six kills.

Hereford stays hot

Hereford stayed hot by earning another win this time beating Pampa in convincing fashion 25-15, 25-18, 25-19, on Tuesday.

London Baker not only moved the ball around for 35 assists but also knocked down 11 kills for a double-double. Kyndal Blair led the team with 15 kills and Karizma Trevino and Maria Villarreal each had seven digs.

Pampa’s Maecie Hawthorne registered a double-double with 15 assists with 15 digs.

Hereford (17-15 overall) remains in third place in District 4-4A at 7-2. Pampa (17-17) falls to 3-7 in district and is two games back of Canyon for the fourth and final playoff spot.

Borger beats up Perryton 

Borger ended some frustration with a season sweep of Perryton on Tuesday night.

The Lady Bulldogs were able to cruise past the struggling Rangerettes getting a three-game sweep, 25-23, 25-11, 25-23.

Kooper Buchanan powered down 10 kills with three blocks and three digs. Emilee Bridges tacked on five blocks with four kills and three digs, and her sister, Addy, added four kills for the Lady Bulldogs.

Borger improves to 16-17 overall and 2-8 in Distict 4-4A. Perryton drops to 0-10 in district and 2-22-2 overall.

District 1-3A

River Road gets big home win over Dalhart 

River Road bounced back from a district opening loss to Dalhart a couple of weeks ago to earn a home win this time around with a sweep of the Lady Wolves, 25-23, 25-18, 25-0, on Tuesday night.

The victory was key for the Lady Wildcats (15-12 overall), who pull into a third-place tie with Dalhart (18-11-1) in District 1-3A at 2-3 with three games remaining.

River Road setter and senior leader Reese DeHart was one kill short of a triple-double finishing with an impressive 20 assists, 12 digs and nine kills. Teammate Ava Sharp had 16 digs with four kills and Heaven Hammett served up five aces.

Bushland sweeps Friona 

Bushland is Class 3A playoff bound by no surprise after a three-game sweep of Friona on the road on Tuesday night, 25-10, 25-22, 25-18.

The Lady Falcons run their incredible district win streak to 86 games dating back to 2011. Bushland (34-6 overall, 5-0 in 1-3A) also clinched a playoff spot with the victory. Friona (27-9) stays in second place at 3-2 in the league.

Jayce Ornales and Abby Howell did work at the net with nine kills each. Avery Ramos tallied 18 digs and Mackenzie Sims dished out 18 assists with two aces.

Aubree Bunker had nine kills to lead Friona.

District 1-2A

West Texas High stays in second place in 1-2A

The West Texas High Lady Comanches earned a big victory against Vega for second place supremacy of District 1-2A with a four-set, 25-15, 25-21, 16-25, 25-23, win on Tuesday.

The Lady Comanches (14-18) improve to 4-2 in district and are all alone in second place behind Sanford-Fritch (24-6, 5-0). Vega (15-14) stays falls into the fourth and final playoff spot at 2-4.

WT High had a huge performance from Addison Lindley, Sage Lay and Zoe Smith. Lay used her big arm for 11 kills, Lindley led the offense with 22 assists and Smith was tremendous on defense with 14 digs.

Highland Park gets needed win

Highland Park did what it was supposed to do by beating Memphis on Tuesday courtesy of a sweep, 25-11, 25-15, 30-28.

McKinli Bufkin and Tessica Deanda both stepped up with double-doubles. Bufkin registered 18 assists and 16 digs while Deanda went for 13 kills with 10 assists.

The Lady Hornets are in third place of District 1-2A at 3-2 and move to 11-21 overall. Memphis falls to 5-13, 0-6.

District 1-1A

Wildorado advances to playoffs 

Wildorado not only stayed perfect in District 1-1A playing its first game in a week, but also clinched a Class 1A playoff spot in the process during a sweep of Fort Elliott, 25-18, 26-24, 25-23.

The Lady Mustangs are now a perfect 4-0 in District 1-1A and 17-4 overall. Fort Elliott (12-12) remains in third place for the final playoff spot at 1-3.

Jisella Segovia had a team-high 12 kills for the Lady Mustangs followed by Cacy Cornwell’s 11. Teammate Jovi Perkins totaled 35 digs.
