High School volleyball district roundup – Canyon sweeps Pampa, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty handles Frenship Memorial

District 4-4A along with District 5-4A, District 1-1A and TAPPS District 1-2A all got underway Tuesday night. District 3-5A also continued. Here’s a recap from Tuesday including Canyon’s district opening win over Pampa, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty’s victory against Frenship Memorial and Fort Elliott’s sweep of Shamrock.

District 4-4A

Canyon takes down Pampa

The Canyon Lady Eagles used a big offensive performance from Laney Jones to open District 4-4A on the right foot getting a 25-17, 25-20, 25-17, sweep of Pampa on Tuesday night at the McNeeley Fieldhouse in Pampa.

The Lady Eagles soar to 11-12 on the year and 1-0 in district play. The Lady Harvesters fall to 14-7 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Jones played her part on the outside taking advantage of every opportunity knocking down a game-high 21 kills for Canyon. Teammate Neelie Henson was strong in the middle to compliment Jones adding seven kills with a pair of blocks. Brylee McElroy and London Gibson did a solid job making sure the offense ran smoothly combining for 33 assists. McElroy paced the team with 19 assists with Gibson adding 14. Both McElroy and Gibson had eight digs apiece on defense as did Aiva Kerr.
