Class 4A

District 4-4A makes it another sweep 

District 4-4A continued to show how great they were throughout the year making another statement with an area round sweep of the El paso schools on Thursday afternoon.

West Plains, Canyon, Randall and Hereford cruised to wins advancing to the third round.

In Division II, Randall handled El Paso Riverside getting a 25-15, 25-15, 25-13, sweep in Andrews on Thursday.

The Lady Raiders (29-13) are headed back to the regional semifinals where they will battle Krum (30-14) at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lubbock-Cooper High School.

During the win over Riverside, Layla Romero knocked down 12 kills, Brooke Henderson had eight aces and Sidney Soria finished with 22 assists.

Canyon kept on cruising getting an area round sweep of Fabens, 25-12, 23-13, 25-9.

The Lady Eagles saw Brooklyn Kinsey play superb offense with a team-best 11 kills. Sydnee Winfrey finished with six kills and three blocks with Alainna Bellino going for 22 assists.

Canyon (26-13) is now set to play Eagle Mountain (29-18) in the regional semifinals at 5 p.m. on Monday at Vernon High School.

In Division I, West Plains stayed hot off its district championship beating up El Paso Ysleta 25-18, 25-18, 25-13, in an area round contest Thursday.

The Lady Wolves were paced by Aaniyah Kitchens with 11 kills and Piper Patterson’s 19 digs.

West Plains (29-11) will battle Stephenville (24-14) in a regional semifinals at 6 p.m. Monday at Colorado City High School.

Not to be outdone, it was the Hereford Lady Whitefaces completing the sweep for the district breezing past San Elizario 25-11, 25-12, 25-10, Thursday.

Hereford (27-20) heads to the regional quarterfinal to play Decatur (28-13) at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Childress High School.

London Baker had 12 assists to go with 10 kills for a double-double.

Class 5A 

Amarillo High, Tascosa roll on 

The Amarillo High Lady Sandies and Tascosa Lady Rebels continue to make District 3-5A look strong getting big wins on Friday afternoon in Andrews.

The Tascosa Lady Rebels opened up Friday with a sweep of a talented El Paso Americas team, 25-22, 25-14, 26-24.

Bennet Berryman was a catalyst in the win leading the back row with 19 digs and had two aces. Berkley Harper charged the offense with 12 kills and Libby Miller with Addison Merrell did a great job of making the offense move combining for 40 assists.

Tascosa (35-9) advances to the regional semifinal round to play Colleyville Heritage (35-6) at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Burkburnett.

Amarillo High followed Friday making quick work of El Paso High 25-20, 25-15, 25-12.

The Lady Sandies (37-6) are now meeting up with Aledo (33-7) at 5 p.m. Tuesday in Snyder in the third round.

Once again, Sienna Cavalier stepped up on the outside with her big right hand knocking down a game-high 18 kills. Bennett Rea dished out 20 assists and Ellen Head hit the floor for 13 digs.

Class 3A

Bushland holds off Denver City

For the first time in quite some time, the Bushland Lady Falcons faced a little bit of a test.

In the end, Bushland passed that test against a gritty Denver City team despite dropping a set with a 25-20, 25-12, 19-25, 25-12, victory.

Bushland (41-4) pushes its win streak to 22 straight and the postseason win mark to nine in a row. The Lady Falcons move on to now get Llano (26-7) in the regional semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Big Spring.

Mackenzie Sims was magnificent with 24 kills, 11 digs and was one assist shy of a triple-double with nine. LilyAnn Shanon and Ambree Hatfield combined for 25 kills with Avery Ramos playing great defense getting 28 digs.

CLASS 2A

Vega marches on

Fresh off their first playoff win, Vega added even more hardware to the trophy case taking down Van Horn in the Class 2A Division II area round Saturday in Denver City with a 25-14, 25-22, 25-17, sweep.

The Lady Longhorns (34-5) continue to make a historic run getting their first two playoff wins in school history and are the only District 1-2A team still standing.

Vega is now set for the regional semifinal for a meeting with Hico (9-13) at a time and place to be determined.

As usual, Jaz Martinez dominated against Van Horn powering down 18 kills with 16 digs for a double-double. Teammate Raelyn Calhoun quarterbacked the offense with 36 assists and Addi Bidegain added 12 digs from the back row with seven kills.

CLASS 1A 

Wildorado, Fort Elliott win 

District 1-1A stayed strong through the second round of the playoffs with both Wildorado and Fort Elliott picking up wins during Saturday’s Class 1A area round.

The Wildorado Mustangs defeated Marfa in four-sets, 25-18, 25-19, 20-25, 25-21, at Lamesa.

The Lady Mustangs were led by Sonnel VanWyk’s impressive outing of 22 assists and 17 kills for a double-double.

Wildorado (12-14) moves on to the regional quarterfinals for a date with Klondike (21-17) at a time and place to be determined.

Fort Elliott also advanced making a thrilling comeback to beat Fort Davis in five-sets, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-21, 15-11.

The Lady Cougars (18-7) advance to the third round for a matchup with Loop (6-10-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Dimmitt.
