On the court: Sims, the Class 3A state tournament MVP from a year ago, hasn’t slowed down this year helping get Bushland off to another tremendous start as the Lady Falcons prepare to go into district soon.

Last week, behind big efforts from Sims, the Lady Falcons were able to earn sweeps over Midland Legacy, West Plains and Frenship. The senior setter was in total control in all three games totaling 57 assists to go with 19 digs and 10 kills over those three victories.

On the season, Sims has already handed out 498 assists with 128 digs and 72 kills.

Coach Jason Culpepper: “I like how we’re playing together right now. We’re a veteran team with some experience and the chemistry is tremendous. We have fun and all challenge each other in practice. Mackenzie is one always challenging herself. She does those subtle things on the court that saves points and she’s a very smart player. She places the ball well and her leadership is growing and maturing.”

Sims: “We’ve been playing really well. The veterans are helping teach the younger classes and the goal never changes. It’s always about looking forward to that state championship. I think personally, I’ve gotten better mentally and as a leader. I’ve been able to control my emotions a lot more and my teammates have pushed me and made me better.”
