Panhandle blanks West Texas High

Panhandle rebounded in a big way from its first loss of the season last week by absolutely blasting West Texas High 65-0 at Comanches Stadium on Friday night.

The Panthers (7-1 overall) clinch a Class 2A Division I postseason spot by moving spot with a 2-1 mark in District 1-2A Division I. West Texas High (4-4) falls to 2-1.

Panhandle quarterback Broxton Robinson went 11-of-15 for 285 yards with four touchdown passes and ran for another 83 yards on 12 carries with a TD.

Landon Durst had a huge night snagging five catches for 227 yards, averaging 45.5 yards per catch with four touchdowns.

Stratford puts it on Sanford-Fritch

The Stratford Elks are headed back to the Class 2A Division I playoffs thanks to a dominating 69-0 shutout over Sanford-Fritch at E.L. Sam Bass Stadium in Stratford on Friday night.

The Elks remain unbeaten at 8-0 on the year while improving to 3-0 in District 1-2A Division I. Stratford also runs its impressive regular season win streak to 23 straight games dating back to 2021.

In limited work, quarterback Bryce Braden threw for 111 yards with two scores and ran for 17 yards with another touchdown. Backup quarterback and freshman Chase Lantelme went 5-of-6 for 114 yards with three touchdowns in solid action. Lantelme also caught two passes for 62 yards with a touchdown.

Farwell pulls away from Highland Park 

Farwell broke open a tight game throughout the first two quarters to get away from a pesky Highland Park team for a 56-32 victory at home on Friday night.

Highland Park was hanging in this back-and-forth contest trailing only 22-18 in the second quarter. That’s when the Steers turned it on scoring 27 unanswered points that gave Farwell a comfortable 49-18 advantage into the fourth quarter.

Quarterback Jonathan Armstrong was stellar in the win for Farwell doing damage with his arm and his quick feet. Through the air, Armstrong was efficient going 10-of-16 for 164 yards with two touchdowns. On the ground, the junior really did work with 178 yards rushing on 12 carries with three more scores. Senior standout Corey Stancell tacked on 143 yards rushing on 10 carries with a pair of TDs and made seven tackles on defense with a sack.

Despite the loss, Hornet quarterback Brady Thompson threw for 429 yards on 24-of-33 passes with four touchdowns.

Farwell (6-2 overall) is now 2-1 in District 1-2A Division II. Highland Park’s struggles continue falling to 0-3 in district and 4-4 overall.

District 2-2A Division II 

Wellington beats up Wheeler 

It was another smooth night of work for Wellington as the Skyrockets pitched their third straight shutout this time blanking Wheeler 46-0 on Friday night.

The Skyrockets (6-2 overall) haven’t allowed a point in nine quarters and have outscored district opponents, Shamrock, Memphis and Wheeler by a combined 146-0.

Wellington also clinches a Class 2A Division II playoff berth moving to 3-0 in District 2-2A Division II. Wheeler (2-6) is still looking for a postseason spot dropping to 1-2.

Wellington tallied 412 yards of offense while the defense was incredible holding the Mustangs to (-) 16 yards on the night and 0-for-9 on third downs.

Carson Tarver went 9-of-16 for Wellington with two touchdown passes. Noah Cantu led the rushing attack with 97 yards on eight totes with a score.

Clarendon runs over Memphis 

Clarendon has now won five straight games and stayed unbeaten in District 2-2A Division II with a 42-6 thumping of Memphis on Friday.

The Broncos (5-3) are playoff bound at 3-0 while Memphis (0-7) falls to 0-3 in the league.

Mason Sims was the story for Clarendon. Sims had a breakout performance and career outing with an eye-opening 332 yards rushing on 24 carries for three touchdowns to lift up the Broncos.

Shamrock takes down Quanah

Shamrock found the district win column for the first time with a 28-12 victory over Quanah under the lights on Friday night.

It’s a win the Irish desperately needed moving to 1-2 in District 2-2A Division II and 4-4 overall. Quanah drops to 1-7 overall and 1-2 in the league.

Shamrock quarterback Phillip Cook was on his game going 14-of-23 for 212 yards with three touchdowns and toted the rock 11 times for 105 yards. Rodney Holmes tacked on 70 yards on six carries with six tackles, and Braxton Allen had a touchdown to go with 53 receiving yards on five catches. He also made seven tackles.

District 3-2A Division II

Bovina was unable to come away with a second straight district win falling to Hale Center 37-17.

The Mustangs are now 1-2 in District 3-2A Division II and 2-6 overall. Hale Center is now 2-6, 1-1.

Lockney (6-2) stunned Ralls 35-22 to stay unbeaten in the league at 3-0, and Sudan hammered Crosbyton 53-13.
