Spearman stuns Stratford in District 1-2A showdownÂ
The Spearman Lynxettes gained a measure of revenge while handing Stratford its first district loss by going on the road and getting a key 35-30 win at Stratford on Friday night.
The Lady Elks and Lynxettes split the season as Spearman (17-4 overall) edges closer to Stratford in the league race at 6-1. Stratford (23-4), which had won its first seven district games, falls to 7-1.
Spearman had to rally back from a sluggish first half. The Lynxettes trailed 9-5 at the end of one and were down 17-8 at the half. However, the shooting picked up in the second half as the Lynxettes outscored the Lady Elk 17-8 in the third quarter to tie the game at 25. In the fourth, Spearman’s offense did just enough, and the defense was superb as the Lynxettes pulled away for the 35-30 win.
Morgan Earle was crucial in the victory scoring a game-high 16 points including knocking down three 3-pointers. Lanie Witten added 11 points with two 3-pointers of her own. Stratford’s Mackenzie Bell finished with 10 points.
