Tascosa clinches playoff berth

The Tascosa Rebels are headed to the postseason after getting a thrilling 58-55 overtime win at Randall on Friday during a District 3-5A clash.

Tascosa rebounds after missing the playoffs a year ago, running its record to 13-14 overall and 5-4 in district. Randall isn’t eliminated from playoff contention sitting at 16-16, 3-6. The Rebels were led by Ashraf Barsham’s 25 points. Randall sophomore sensation KJ Thomas did make history despite the loss. Thomas knocked down his 118th 3-pointer on the year in a 29 point effort. Thomas sets the new school-record set by Keenan Hooker in 2000-2001.

Bushland is in district driver’s seat

Bushland gained a measure of revenge from its lone district loss going up to Spearman and coming away with a 45-41 victory.

The Falcons clinch a share of the District 1-3A title, improving to 8-1 in league play. Bushland (15-9) can clinch the outright championship by beating Dalhart on Tuesday. Cole Purcell tallied 13 points in the win. Spearman falls to 18-6, 7-2.

Friday’s top performers

The Dumas duo of Cristian Kelso and Johnny Reynaga accounted for 50 of the Demons 78 points in a 78-74 win at Pampa. Kelso and Reynaga each scored 25 a piece.

Shamrock’s Justin Moon poured in 30 points to help the Irish past Memphis 81-34.

Joshua Booth kept the in a first-place tie with Valley in District 2-1A by dropping in 29 during the Owls 63-47 win at White Deer.

Girls seeding game action

The High School Girls playoffs officially start Monday, however, a handful of seeding games took place Friday night. Childress avenged a loss to Abernathy on Tuesday, downing the Lady Lopes 39-23 to secure the third spot out of District 2-3A. Muleshoe beat Littlefield 35-32 to secure second in District 3-3A, Memphis outscored Wheeler 49-39 in a play-in game for the final postseason berth from District 2-2A, and Hartley took third place in District 3-1A by defeating Wildorado, 61-42.
