It was a busy night of Week 6 action across the Texas Panhandle and South Plains. Check out how teams from the Texas Panhandle and South Plains faired including Shallowater’s beating of Canadian, Wall pulling away from Idalou and Gruver blanking River Road.
Shallowater blasts Canadian
The Shallowater Mustangs bounced back from a blowout loss to Idalou last week by handing out a whipping to previously unbeaten Canadian on Friday with a 52-20 victory on Friday night at Todd Field.
The Mustangs (3-3) didn’t waste anytime jumping on Canadian (5-1) coming out of the gate scoring on their opening possession and never looking back. In fact, Shallowater led 17-0 before the Wildcats finally got on the board on a Weston Mitchell touchdown toss to CJ Jiminez late in the first quarter.

That was about the only thing that went the Wildcats way the rest of the night. Shallowater quarterback Cooper Martin was in complete control picking Canadian apart going 18-of-23 for 225 yards with three touchdowns and ran for 74 yards with two more touchdowns. Maddox McDonald made four of those catches for 92 yards with a score. McDonald also led a strong defensive effort with one of four team interceptions against the Wildcats. Daniel Rideout led the Mustangs with 10 tackles.
Wall pulls away from Idalou in Class 3A Division II showdown
In a battle between two of the top teams in all of Class 3A Division II, it was the Wall Hawks pulling away from Idalou in the second half to get a 35-21 win at Wildcats Stadium in Idalou.
The Hawks stay unbeaten on the year at 6-0 while Idalou falls to 3-3. Despite three turnovers in the contest, the Hawks were able to pull away from the Wildcats outscoring Idalou 21-7 in the second half. Wall sensational quarterback Landon York was on top of his game going 19-of-29 for 307 yards with two touchdowns. Running back Brady Neal ran for 70 yards on 18 carries with a score and Reid Robinson made the most of five catches tallying 123 yards with a TD.
Dalhart beats up Muleshoe
The Dalhart Golden Wolves pitched a second straight shutout to improve to 5-1 on the season. Last week it was Borger, and this week it was Muleshoe as the Golden Wolves raced away with a 59-0 victory at home.
Muleshoe has now dropped four in a row falling to 2-4.
Dalhart stacked up 507 yards of offense to Muleshoe’s 273. The ground attack was clutch in the win with 351 yards coming from the Dalhart run game. Quarterback Hunter Trusler ran for 161 of those yards on 10 carries with three touchdowns. Trusler was also 5-of-10 for 139 yards with another score. Gregory Whitaker toted the rock five times for 39 yards with a touchdown and caught broke loose for a 71-yard TD off a dump off pass from Trusler.
Week 6 quick hits
The Gruver Greyhounds closed out the non-district schedule with a blanking of River Road 54-0 on Friday night at Wildcats Stadium. The Greyhounds end non-district play at 5-1 and will travel to Stratford for a District 1-2A Division II showdown next week. Emmanuel Valverde led a big rushing night going for 105 yards on 14 carries with a touchdown in the win. Quarterback Briggs Satterfield did his job going 9-of-12 for 212 yards with four touchdown passes. The Wildcats fall to 1-4.
Farwell stayed red-hot running past Friona 49-27 on Friday night. The Steers are now 4-1 overall while the Chieftains drop to 1-5. Farwell quarterback Kolson Allen went 15-of-22 for 198 yards with three touchdowns. Coy Miller had another huge night on the ground with 170 yards rushing on 17 carries with two scores.
Lubbock Estacado erased a 20-7 fourth quarter deficit to score 21 unanswered points and knock off Andrews 28-20 on Thursday night at PlainsCapital-Park at Lowrey Field in Lubbock. Matador sensation Cedric Ross led the comeback scoring all three fourth quarter touchdowns. Ross caught a 24-yard pass from Jay’Ric Ward to get the rally started then scored on touchdown runs of 10 and eight yards. Ross ended his busy night with 127 yards rushing off of 17 carries.
Lubbock-Cooper Liberty suffered its first loss on the year falling at Midland Greenwood 34-14. The Patriots (5-1) fell behind 21-0 in the second quarter and never recovered. Greenwood quarterback back Lincoln Madrid chewed up Liberty for 126 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown run and threw for 139 yards for two more scores.
It wasn’t easy, however, Seminole pulled away from Hereford for a 45-28 road win Friday. The Indians picked up a big night from quarterback Dominick Higgins who threw for 327 yards with six touchdowns to three different receivers. Logan McCormick was his favorite target. McCormick caught nine passes for 124 yards with three scores. Despite the loss, Hereford quarterback Kalub Ramirez was 14-of-23 for 176 yards including a pair of touchdowns.
Littlefield stays undefeated on the year rolling over Coahoma 35-19 on Friday night. The Wildcats will head to District 2-3A Division II play at 6-0 overall. Sammy Saenz threw for three touchdowns on 183 yards passing and added 58 yards rushing. Jayden Barrio was the go-to target with four catches for 86 yards and two TDs.
Vega was able to get a shutout win against Memphis 20-0 on Friday night. The Longhorns are now 3-3 heading into district play. Vega quarterback Kason Vogler ran for 123 yards on 19 carries with a pair of touchdowns with Omar Segovia adding 100 yards rushing on 15 carries. Trypp Busby led the defense with 10 tackles.
Slaton was able to hold off a strong effort from Dimmitt 21-16. The Tigers move to 5-1 overall while the Bobcats slip to 4-2. Slaton quarterback Jacob Lopez went 9-of-14 for 130 yards with a touchdown and ran for 51 yards with a TD. Dimmitt’s Kaden Carpio threw for 126 yards with a score.
In a couple of other non-district games, Lubbock Trinity beat Tulia 49-0, and Denver City downed Borger 35-7.
