London Baker, Hereford volleyball, So.

On the court: The No. 12-ranked Hereford Lady Whitefaces are right in the mix atop the District 4-4A standings earning sweeps last week of Borger and Perryton. Baker is getting better each and every week and it showed in the pair of victories. Against Borger, the sophomore setter handed out 29 assists and played steady defense with eight kills. During the sweep of Perryton, Baker had a game-high 30 assists. On average, Baker is averaging 53 assists per week chipping in five blocks a match and five aces. Through 36 games this year Baker is closing in on 1,000 assists, racking up 943 so far with 70 aces.

Coach Carley McCracken: “We ran a 6-2 last year but we moved to one setter this year and London has done a great job of handling the role and leading the offense. London is the quarterback of the team and has earned the trust from her hitters. We all have trust in her. I really like that her leadership has come a long way and she is a lot more confident. She’s not the most vocal but maintains emotion and she is steady leader; off court she is so smart and someone that people can look up to.”

Baker: “I feel that the season is going great we have a chance to make a deep playoff run. This team has great chemistry, trust and everyone keeps each other accountable. It’s a lot of responsibility being the only setter, but you can’t get down on yourself and I’ve learned a lot from hitters. There’s no better feeling than we when we get a kill on a set. I just want to continue to be a good leader, and we just want to keep playing the best we can.”
