Former Texas Tech tight end Tyler Carr announced via his social media accounts that he has committed to play football for the University of Hawai’i this fall.

Carr, which will soon reside in Honolulu, HI., which is 3,500 miles from his hometown of Canadian says multiple visits with the coaches made him feel being a Rainbow Warrior was the best choice despite not being able to visit the campus because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“So what really sold me is getting on phone with tight end and running backs coach Bo Graham, and offensive coordinator G.J. Kinne,” Carr said. “I liked what they had to say, and it made me feel like it will be a great fit. I know I didn’t visit, and yes the distance was a huge factor, but taking risk is part of game. I can’t wait to get there.“

The Canadian graduate hit the NCAA Transfer Portal in January, after transferring from Texas Tech after three seasons.

The 6-foot-5, 235 pound Carr, played in a total of 13 games for Texas Tech over the past three years, serving as a tight end/ fullback.

Carr, who was recruited as a preferred walk-on by former head coach Kliff Kingsbury, earned a starting fullback spot as a true freshman in 2017.

This past season, Carr rehabbed a leg injury last summer. After being put on scholarship by Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells in August, Carr’s action was limited on the field during the Red Raiders 2019 season.

Carr joins a Hawai’i team that was 10-5 last season, beating BYU in the SOFI Hawai’i Bowl, 38-34, under veteran coach Todd Graham.
