The Texas High School football season wrapped up the first month of play and Week 4 saw some unbelievable performances. Let’s take a look at some of those athletes that shined on Thursday and Friday across the Amarillo-area and South Plains.
Kyron Brown, Palo Duro, WR, Sr.
The University of Texas commit had a breakout performance during Palo Duro’s 41-21 win against Dumas on Friday night. In helping the Dons to a third straight win, Brown’s speed presented problems for the Demon defense. Quarterback Julian Reese II found Brown five times for 121 yards with a 24 yard per catch average that included a touchdown. Brown made the most of one carry taking it 26 yards to the house for a score.
Drayden Ray, Randall, RB, Jr.
Ray put the Randall Raiders on his back and then some in a thrilling 35-28 overtime Homecoming win against Canadian on Friday night. Ray, who also had to take over the quarterback duties in the second half, carried the ball 30 times for 191 yards that included the eventual game-winning 20-yard touchdown in OT. Ray finished with three rushing scores, and also went 4-of-10 through the air for 93 yards with another TD.
Parker Hall, Bushland, QB, Soph.
The Bushland gunslinger has taken the reigns and ran with the starting quarterback position. Hall had the Falcons offense flying during a 69-40 blowout win against Lubbock Christian High School on Friday. In the passing game, Hall was magnificent, going 27-of-40 for 475 yards with seven touchdown passes to four different receivers. Hall also led the team in rushing chewing up 72 yards.
Christian Garcia, Borger, QB, Sr.
Christian Garcia was going to do anything he could to help Borger snap a 17-game on-field losing skid and an 11-game losing streak to arch-rival Pampa. Garcia delivered during the Bulldogs 30-20 victory thanks to his dual-threat ability. The senior toted the rock only eight times but ate up the Harvesters for 100 yards rushing and a score. He also threw for 84 yards.
Keagan Sides, Childress, LB, Sr.
Childress had one of the more wilder wins of Week 4. The Bobcats were up 24-0 on Holliday, only to find themselves trailing 45-31 in the fourth quarter, but then score 15 unanswered points down the stretch to nab the thrilling win. Sides had a monster defensive effort for a game that totaled 91 points. The senior linebacker led the Bobcats with 10 tackles and two interceptions with one of those he returned for a touchdown.
Easton Foster, Shallowater, RB-DB, Jr.
The Shallowater Mustangs remained unbeaten and ready for a South Plains showdown with Idalou this coming week. The Mustangs didn’t overlook Monahans during a 35-21 home win. Foster played a Swiss Army Knife role on Friday. Defensively, Foster racked up 15 total tackles. He was also impactful on offense running for 31 yards and had a reception for 10 yards.
Abraham Goss, Stratford, RB, Sr.
Stratford made quite the statement and showing just how good they can be after a commanding 50-13 win at home against Spearman on Friday. The Elks gave the Lynx a heavy dose of Abraham Goss, and the senior relished the opportunity. Goss carried the ball 21 times for a game-high 169 yards with three trips to the endzone.
Kasyn Fetterman, Vega, QB, Soph.
Fetterman erased a rough start with two first quarter interceptions to help Vega rally from a 12-0 deficit to get a 35-32 win at Sudan on Friday. The Longhorns are now 4-0 for the first time since 2015 with the victory. Once he settled down, Fetterman was superb going 8-of-13 for 334 yards with four touchdown passes. Fetterman tacked on 40 yards rushing with another score.
Coy Miller and Tak Miller, Farwell, QB-RB
The brother tandem of Coy and Tak Miller made sure Farwell earned its first win with the Steers holding off Muleshoe, 32-31, on Friday night. Coy Miller ran the ball 16 times for a team-best 179 yards and two scores, while his brother Tak also toted the ball 16 times for 149 yards with a pair of TDs.
Kaleb House, White Deer, RB-LB, Jr.
It’s time to start learning the name Kaleb House. Each and every week, the junior tailback is putting up eye-popping numbers and leading the Bucks to wins. House is built his name even stronger once more in a White Deer 62-12 blowout win over Miami. House took 10 carries and went to work, tallying 204 yards with four touchdowns. He then threw for 99 yards with two more TDs, and defensively made eight tackles.
