Canyon Eagles, Tascosa Lady Rebels, win Randall’s Raider Nation Relays

The Tascosa Lady Rebels and Canyon Eagles were able to bring home team titles during a very beautiful Friday afternoon at a jam packed Randall High School practice field and track facility.

The Lady Rebels were able to fend off West Plains, totaling 167 points to the Lady Wolves 153 points to get the team championship.

Highlighting the meet for Tascosa was definitely the relay teams. The Lady Rebels opened the meet setting the tone, winning the sprint relay behind the foursome of Markline Nuquay, Jaycii Saryoung, Blessing Doerue, and Hazelynn Patterson, who clocked a gold medal time of 49.11.

The 800-meter relay team of Patterson, Doerue, De’Asia Sims and Blaire Whatley, won a second gold with a time of 1:45.53.

To cap off the meet, the Lady Rebels mile relay team also earned 16 key points that helped win the meet, getting a silver medal. Those four getting silver with a time of 4:07.69 were Saryoung, Destiny Gates, Sims and Whatley.

Nuquay wasn’t done on her day. The Tascosa sprinter also won gold in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.46. Tascosa also dominated the field events highlighted by thrower Raelee Blevins. Blevins went double gold winning both the shot put and discus events. Blevins won the shot put with a toss of 40-feet-5 inches, and won the discus with a launch of 138-10.

On the boys’ side, the Canyon Eagles were able to fend off Tascosa for the team title. The Eagles tallied 108.5 points to win the championship to Tascosa’s 103 points.

The Eagles relays did a superb job of getting Canyon points. The 800-meter relay of Baylor West, Jacob Asbill, Aiden Wynn and Emmitt Stewart, won the gold with a 1:26.93. The mile relay team of Nolan Prock, West, Simon Maxwell and Rhett Williams ran a silver medal time of 3:31.1 and the sprint relay team took home a bronze.

Kelton Burgoon also did his part in the field events, tossing a 165-4 to get a gold medal.

Raider Nation Relay notes

The West Plains Lady Wolves had a big day Friday winning five individual events and a relay. The mile relay team consisting of Vivian Risko, Audrey White, Kynsley Betancourt and Isabelle Smith, won gold with a time of 4:04.34. Earlier in the meet, Jackelyn Hernandez earned two gold medals for West Plains. Hernandez started her day leaping a 17-4 1/2 to win the long jump.

In the running stanza, Hernandez held off the competition in the 400-meter race with a time of 59.70 for her second gold. Teammate Siyan Mitchell was also solid in the 100-meter hurdle race, winning gold with a time of 15.64, with Eleri Gomez making it a team sweep by winning the 300-meter hurdles clocking a 49.23. In one other field event, Elizabeth Hobbs cleared 5-feet to win the high jump.

Randall’s prolific long distance runner Brooke French put on quite the shot in front of the home fans. French went double gold Friday winning the 800 and 1600-meter races. French ran a gold medal winning time of 2:23.53 to win gold in the 800-meter race. Later in the evening, French was back on the gold medal stand after getting a gold medal time of 5:22.77 in the 1600-meter.

French wasn’t the only one bringing home multiple gold medals. Hereford’s Izak Dominguez kept up his stellar season, winning both the 110 and 300-meter hurdles Friday. Dominguez won the 110-meter race with a time of 14.38, then turned around later in the evening and won the 300-meter event thanks to a 39.99.

Randall’s Promise Sherwood showcased his speed and for that was able to bring home some hardware. Sherwood shined as the second leg for the Raiders gold medal winning sprint relay team that won with a 41.99. Sherwood then took gold in the 100-meter dash, blazing to a 11.17, and was fourth in the 200-meter (22.31).
