As expected, the Canyon Eagles and Lady Eagles stole the show in the big school divisions with the boys team setting a new course record for the event.

The Canyon boys’ team of Grady Simmons, Jamison Kirton, Domenic San Miguel and Noah Cooper set the tone of what they hope is a big season by setting a new meet record by almost two minutes. The four-some clocked a 6-mile time of 29:53.92 beating the previous time of 30:19 set in 2023. Canyon showed its depth with the other team of Omar Rosales, Ethan Labue, Joel Moore and Aidon Tijerina getting second overall with a time of 31:59.72.

On the Division II side, Canadian was the winner behind CJ Jiminez, Luis Valles, Rogelio Valenzuela and Joseph Dominguez. That four-some ran a time of 33:43.79. Ascension Academy placed second with a time of 33:47.87 behind the team of Owen Chow, Roman Martinez, Gabriel Miller and Zachary Parker.

The defending UIL Class 4A state champion Canyon Lady Eagles are off to a tremendous start. It helps that two-time individual state champion and one of the top runners in the state returns in Addyson Bristow. Behind Bristow, and the team of Presli Pool, Michaela Sharber and Aubrey Holloway, the Lady Eagles pulled away from the field to win the 6-mile relay with a 35:37.36 on Saturday.

Like the boys’ team, the Lady Eagles showed their depth with their other team getting second behind Crickette Morris, Aliana Campos-Jones, Ella Martinez and Reese Wilson’s time of 38:58.52.

Wellington’s team of Tatyum Kane, Anna Henard, Aleah Lewis and Sabrina Segovia was second running a time of 43:23.72.
