District 1-1A/ 2-1A Area meet

White Deer carried on the momentum from a late season surge of winning a district title by making it another sweep this time of the District 1-2A/ District 2-2A Area track and field team titles on Wednesday on their home turf.

The Does captured the girls championship with a total of 142 points with the Bucks finishing with 135 points.

Standout Faith Jackson was once again fantastic for White Deer during the meet qualifying for regionals in four events winning four gold medals. Jackson started her medal haul winning the long jump leaping a 15-8 1/2. During the running events, she won the 100-meter dash sprinting to a 12.38 then was a part of the 800-meter relay team that captured a title with a 1:54.76. Jackson ended her afternoon on top once again with a win in the 200-meter race thanks to a 26.64.

Teammate Shariden Parks also had quite the day. Parks anchored the sprint relay team that took silver (54.46), and was on the gold medal winning 800-meter relay squad. Parks then qualified to regional in the 200-meter race getting bronze (27.61).

McLean’s Gracee Henderson and Kasidy Russell led the Lady Tigers to a second-place finish with 106 points combining for six gold medals Wednesday. Henderson won the 800-meter run (2:33.15) and the 400-meter race (1:02.84) and was a part of the mile relay team that ran a season-best time of 4:28.40. Russell, who will play college basketball at Southwestern Oklahoma State, swept the hurdle events running a 16.28 in the 100-meter hurdles and a 50.18 in the 300-meter event. Russell was also a part of the mile relay winning team.

Claude’s Shealee Brannon had the most endurance winning both long distance events. Brannon earned the first gold medal outlasting the field with a time of 12:36.06 in the 3200-meter race and then won the 1600-meter with a 5:46.21.

The White Deer Bucks scored most of their points with a sweep in the relay events. The sprint relay team of Kaleb House, Lucas Radina, Logan Matlock and Foster Black left the field behind clocking a 45.90. The 800-meter relay team of House, Black, Matlock and Braxton Brown made it 2-for-2 with a gold medal time of 1:35.71, and the sweep was complete with the mile relay group of Matlock, Brown, Karson Vaughn and Caynden Mynear running a 3:40.53.

Mynear had an excellent day on top of the mile relay win. Mynear won the 1600-meter race (4:49.87) and the high jump title with a 5-8. He was also silver in the 800-meter run (2:03.56).

Booker’s dynamic duo of Adrian Rosales and Julian Barton helped the Kiowas to 117 points and a second-place finish. The prolific Rosales swept the long-distance events. Rosales started the day running a 10:29.16 for the 3200-meter championship. In the afternoon, Rosales won the 800-meter title with a 2:01.68 and capped his day off with a gold in the 1600-meter racing to a 4:45.59.

Barton showed his speed qualifying in two events. Barton on his first gold in the 400-meter race sprinting to a 51.71. He followed that with a 200-meter title thanks to a 22.06.

District 3-1A/ 4-1A

The Boys Ranch Lady Roughriders help off Happy while the Happy boys held off Boys Ranch during the running of the District 3-1A/ 4-1A Area track and field championships in Vega on Thursday.

The Lady Roughriders scored 97 points for the team title outlasting Happy with 91. The Cowboys scored 137 points for the boys’ team championship with Boys Ranch coming in second with 100.

Aside from the team titles, this meet saw plenty of individual performances that made a splash. Silverton’s Maddie Francis is always one to watch and was again Wednesday advancing to regionals in three events. Francis took home three golds starting in the long jump popping off a 16-5 3/4. Francis went on to sweep the hurdle races winning the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.72 and then the 300-meter hurdles (46.48).

Hope McLain of Kress won double gold in the 800-meter run (2:32.63) and the 400-meter (1:00.98), Texline’s Jada Clay was victorious in the 1600-meter (5:54.76) and earned silver in the 800-meter (2:33.31), and Hart’s Mia Lopez won the shot put tossing 30-feet as well as the discus event throwing a 100-2.

In boys’ action, Happy’s Brance Ferguson looked great winning the 3200-meter run (10:35.24) and the 1600-meter race (4:57.75). Teammate Kole Gibson sprinted to a 16.31 for a win in the 110-meter hurdles and then made it a sweep getting gold in the 300-meter hurdles with a 43.03. Gibson took his third gold of the day as a part of the mile relay team that won with a 3:41.59.

District 7-1A/ 8-1A

Valley had a pair of individuals highlight the District 7-1A/ 8-1A Area Track and Field meet in Post on Wednesday.

Senior standout Trinity Schlueter punched her ticket to regionals grabbing three gold medals in the sprints. Schlueter won the 100-meter dash racing to a 12.85. The two-time All-State basketball selection then won the 400-meter race with a 1:02.23 and finished the meet with a gold in the 200-meter thanks to a 27.94.

Eean Hartman for Valley did superb on the boys side qualifying in three events. Hartman, with teammates Damian Valdes, Taevion Ramos and Mical Ferrel, won the sprint relay (45.25). Hartman grabbed gold in the 100-meter dash (11.16) and a silver in the 200-meter (23.51).

The Region I-1A Track and Field meet is set for April 18-19 on the campus of South Plains College in Levelland.
