Dumas remains unbeaten through district
Each and every week, the Dumas Demonettes are proving to be the team to beat in District 4-4A.
The Demonettes stayed red-hot staying perfect in district play after pummeling Pampa and hustling past Hereford by a combined 29-1 on Tuesday and Friday. Dumas blanked Pampa 10-0 on Tuesday and then run-ruled Hereford 19-1 on the road Friday.
[tds_partial_locker tds_locker_id=”26894″]Through the first half of District 4-4, Dumas (23-3 overall) has an unblemished mark in district at 8-0 leading Randall by two games.
Against the Lady Harvesters, Star Cortes threw a gem in the circle to get the win. Cortes went all five innings handcuffing Pampa to three hits with three strikeouts. Cortes also drilled a solo homer to help her cause on offense. During the victory against the Lady Whitefaces, Cortes did her job once again throwing two scoreless innings with four K’s, and went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double to total four RBIs.
Teammate Lisbeth Quiroz was clutch Friday as well going 2-for-4 including a double and a triple with three runs driven in.
Randall kept pace getting two lopsided wins on Tuesday and Friday. The Lady Raiders opened the week beating Hereford 11-2 then followed with a 27-0 dominating victory against Perryton. Randall (20-7) is in second place in District 4-4A at 6-2. Alyssa Navarrete had quite the week. In the pair of victories, Navarrete was a combined 5-for-8 with three doubles, a home run, finishing with six RBIs. Navarrete was also dealing tossing 12 innings in the circle earning two wins racking up a total of 18 strikeouts without allowing an earned run.
Canyon put together a thrilling week of victories beating West Plains 7-6 in nine innings Tuesday then doubled up Pampa 8-4 on Friday.
Against West Plains, Chloe Burton singled home Bayleigh Burks for the walk-off win. Burton’s heroics was part of a big afternoon going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Burks stepped up in the Pampa win going 3-for-4 that included a double and four RBIs. The Lady Eagles (18-6-2) are tied with Pampa (13-5) for third place in the league at 5-3.
District 3-5A
Amarillo High stays in mix atop district standings
Amarillo High did suffer its first District 3-5A loss Tuesday at home to Lubbock-Cooper, however, the Lady Sandies were able to rebound getting a pair of shutout wins against Palo Duro and Lubbock Coronado.
Lubbock-Cooper jumped on AHS and never relinquished the lead for a 13-1-win Tuesday. On Friday, the Lady Sandies blanked Palo Duro 21-0 and then took down Coronado 16-0. The Lady Sandies (18-7-2) are 9-1 in District 3-5A sitting a half of a game back of the Lady Pirates (17-3 overall, 9-0 in district).
Mkyaela Samuels was 5-for-5 in the pair of wins that saw two doubles, a homer and a combined six RBIs.
Caprock is hanging in the playoff mix. The Lady Longhorns knocked off Plainview 12-2 on Tuesday before suffering a 6-3 defeat to Lubbock High on Friday. Caprock did rebound with a 6-3 win over Tascosa on Saturday.
The Lady Longhorns (9-7-1) move to 10-7-1 overall and are in fourth place in the league at 6-4.
District 1-3A
Bushland, River Road set for district showdown
Both Bushland and River Road remained undefeated in District 1-3A before the first of two showdowns on Tuesday.
The Lady Falcons soared by Tulia 17-1 and Dalhart 19-3. The Lady Wildcats held off Childress 5-2 on Monday and then dismantled Canadian 11-2 on Friday.
Bushland (12-12) and River Road (17-6) are both 4-0 in District 1-3A and are set to face-off at 4:30 p.m. Monday at River Road.
In the two wins for Bushland, Charley Spinks hit for the cycle going 4-for-4 with five RBIs. On Friday against Dalhart, Spinks rocked Lady Wolves pitching going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Teammate Kami Albus contributed going 4-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs.
River Road used a huge three-run home run from Emma Killman in the bottom of the fifth to get a big 5-2 win over Childress at home. Carolyn Koval did her part in the circle going all seven innings with 12 strikeouts. In the Canadian win, Ava Sharp was 4-for-4 at the plate and three seven innings allowing two runs with an eye-popping 17 strikeouts.
District 1-2A
West Texas High upends Sanford-Fritch
The West Texas High Lady Comanches plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth to stun Sanford-Fritch 8-7 on Tuesday during a District 1-2A home clash.
Trailing 7-6 heading into the last at-bat, WT High’s Haven Lee tied the game up with an RBI single followed by a walk-off sacrifice fly from Allyson Hogan that scored Chloe Jett giving the Lady Comanches the victory.
Jett was clutch at the dish going 3-for-4 with a solo homer. Hogan was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and Lee threw 9.1 innings allowing only two earned runs with six strikeouts. The Lady Comanches improve to 2-3 in district and 9-5 overall.
Sanford-Fritch did get a win blasting Booker 33-11 on Friday. The Lady Eagles (12-3 overall, 4-1 in district) saw Jaylee Carr feasted on Lady Kiowas pitching going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Highland Park earned a big win beating Follett 15-2. Kaitlin Lucas led the way with two three-run home runs to finish the game with six RBIs. The Lady Hornets are now 4-12-1 on the season.
Gruver continues to play well getting two non-district wins. The Lady Hounds handled Booker 23-3 and knocked off Claude 11-1. The Lady Hounds are now 10-5 overall.
In District 2-2A, Clarendon did beat Memphis 14-1 earlier in the week before dropping a close one 8-6 to Floydada on Friday. The Lady Broncos are now 3-1 in district and 15-5 overall. Kennadie Cummins had a homer with 13 strikeouts against Memphis.
