District 3-5A Girls

Amarillo High continued its winning ways dismantling Lubbock High 7-0 before Tascosa was able to push the Lady Sandies to a 0-0 draw to close out another busy week of District 3-5A action.

In the Lubbock High match, Sofia Pepper put one past the goalkeeper to give The Lady Sandies an early 1-0 lead. Amarillo High controlled the rest of the first half but wasn’t able to add any additional goals, resulting in a 1-0 score at halftime. 

A few minutes into the second half, Pepper beat the goalie again for her second goal of the day as the Lady Sandies went up 2-0. Pepper then netted a hattrick scoring her third goal later in the game. The onslaught was on from that point forward with Madison Hoskins, Ava Nash, Sophia Hernandez and Saylor Carroll each scoring. Hernandez also added three assists.  

AHS, which has already stamped a playoff berth, remains atop the District 3-5A lead at 12-0-2 and are now 15-1-2 overall. Tascosa (8-5-3 overall) is sitting in fourth place at 8-3-2 in district.

Girls’ quick hits

Palo Duro collected a pair of shutout wins besting Plainview 7-0 and defeating Caprock 2-0. The Lady Dons move to 6-7-5 overall and 3-5-4 in the league race.  

Caprock suffered a pair of 2-0 losses this past week against Lubbock-Cooper and Palo Duro. The Lady Longhorns fall to 2-9-6 overall 1-7-5 in district.

In District 3-4A, West Plains and Randall highlighted action with a big-time showdown Friday at West Plains High School. Unlike the first meeting where the Lady Raiders came away with a 1-0 win, this time the two teams battled to a 0-0 draw. Kat Torres of West Plains produced the offensive highlight striking a ball perfectly on target from around the 35-yard line, however, it was deflected away by the Randall goalie at the net.

The Lady Wolves did earn a shutout earlier in the week beating Perryton 5-0 while Randall pummeled Canyon 9-0. Randall (15-5-1 overall) is still in first place of District 3-4A at 11-0-1 while West Plains (13-3-3) sits right behind the Lady Raiders at 10-1-1.

Borger had a strong week securing two shutout wins against Dumas 6-0 and Pampa 9-0. The Lady Bulldogs sit at 12-5 overall and are tied with Canyon at 8-4 in District 3-4. That sets up a showdown this week with the Lady Eagles for the third playoff spot. 

Canyon rebounded from its loss to Randall early in the week, with a 3-2 win against Dumas. Aspen Esch, Avery Thomas and Jaylee Blakley all scored goals against the Demonettes. Canyon is 8-11-1 overall 8-4 in the league.  

District 3-4A Boys

Perryton took strangle hold on the District 3-4A lead this past week earning two more wins.

The Rangers dominated West Plains 3-0 and followed that up with a 6-1 home win against Pampa.

Aviel Montes led the Rangers in scoring with four goals with Ivan Guerrero adding a hattrick. Perryton has a 10-1-1 mark in district and is now 12-6-1 overall. Perryton controls its own destiny. If the Rangers win out, they will be District 3-4A champions.

Randall produced the most shocking result of the week, defeating West Plains 3-1 on Friday night The Raiders also defeated Canyon 3-2 early in the week. Randall is 7-9-1 overall 4-8 in the district race. West Plains falls to 13-5-1 overall 8-3-1 in District 3-4A.

Borger and Dumas tied with a 0-0 draw on Tuesday. Borger then bounced back with a 7-2 win against Hereford later in the week. Noah Dimmitt led Borger with two goals. The Bulldogs move to 9-10-1 overall and 6-5-1 in district. Dumas did beat Canyon 2-1 to improve to 12-2-2 and remain in second place at 9-1-2 in the league.

Dumas tied Borger 0-0 Tuesday evening at Bulldog Stadium and followed that up with a 2-1 win over Canyon Friday night to close out its week, goals provided by Ismael Marchan and Saul Calderon. The Demons sit alone in second place at 9-1-2 in District 12-2-2 Overall.

Pampa was able to stay alive beating Hereford 5-2. The Harvesters (9-8-8) are within striking distance of the fourth and final playoff spot at 5-5-2 in the league.

Pampa picked up a 5-2 win against Hereford to start its week, keeping the Harvesters within striking distance of the Bulldogs for the fourth and final playoff spot. Pampa is 9-8-3 overall 5-5-2 in District  

District quick hits

In District 3-5A, Caprock came away with two ties. The Longhorns tied with Lubbock-Cooper 2-2, and then another draw with Palo Duro 1-1. Fernando Lira and Andre Venzor scored goals for Caprock with Lira tacking on an assist. The Longhorns are now 8-3-2 in district and 12-4-2 overall.

Palo Duro did get a victory beating Plainview 5-2. The Dons push their record to 5-2-4 in district play and 9-4-4 overall. Tharcisse Butoyi totaled his week with two goals and two assists. Teammate Jose Garcia went for two goals as well.

Tascosa fell 2-0 to Lubbock Monterey but did beat arch-rival Amarillo High 2-1. The Rebels (10-6-2 overall) are at 5-6-1 in the league.

Despite the loss to Tascosa, the Sandies knocked off Lubbock High 4-1 giving AHS an 8-7-2 overall mark and a 5-6-1 district record.
