Zach Brown, Amarillo High, 6-3, guard, Sr.
The son of West Texas A&M men’s basketball coach, Tom, is one of the top shooters in the Texas Panhandle and leader for tradition-rich Amarillo High. As good as Brown is on offense, game-in and game-out, he is usually tasked with the toughest defensive assignment as well.
Brown was a huge reason the Sandies went 34-5 and reached the Class 5A state semifinals a year ago, averaging 15 points per game, made 79 3-pointers shooting 49.7 percent from 3-point land. Brown was named co-District 3-5A MVP, TABC all-region and TABC all-state.
Tayesen Combs, Randall, 6-3, guard, Sr.
The versatile Combs steps into a leadership role after the loss of a talented senior class. Combs saw major improvement as a junior earning District 4-4A Co-Offensive Player of the Year and TABC All-Region honors. Showing his versatility, Combs put up 14.9 points a game and averaged 4.9 rebounds for a Randall team that made a second straight UIL CLass 4A state tournament appearance.
Victor Juarez, Palo Duro, 6-0, guard, Sr.
Under first-year head coach Marques Loftis, the Palo Duro Dons put together an excellent season last year going 23-7 advancing to the third round of the playoffs. A big reason why was the sharp-shooting Juarez. Juarez, a TABC All-Region selection, showed his incredible range averaging 17 points a game and was deadly beyond the 3-point line shooting 43.7 percent. He also averaged 2.9 steals per contest.
Hawkins Farris, Tascosa, 6-foot, guard, Sr.
Farris makes up a very dependable and dangerous backcourt for head coach Steven Jackson and the Tascosa Rebels. The dependable senior could always be counted on for Tascosa on both ends of the floor averaging 8.5 points a game last year.
Ayden Larra, West Plains 6-foot, guard, Jr.
As a sophomore last year, Larra came into his own last year earning District 4-4A Co-Newcomer of the Year with his dynamic play for a very good West Plains team. The versatile guard is explosive and proved he can score posting 9.1 points a game while shooting 40 percent from beyond the arc.
Tyi Duque, Hereford, 5’6, guard, Sr.
While not the biggest of players, Duque makes up for it for his play on the court. Hereford’s leader and do-it-all guard had a tremendous junior campaign averaging 16.6 points a night, dished out 2.1 assists and on defense averaged a charge per contest. For his efforts, Duque was an All-District selection.
Maddix Blanco, Dalhart, 5-11, guard, Jr.
The 5-foot-11 guard makes up a very veteran group of players for a Dalhart squad with high aspirations heading into the 2024-2025 season. As a sophomore, Blanco showed just how good he could be pouring in 13.6 points a night earning him the District 1-3A Newcomer of the Year.
Jenner King, Bushland, 5-10, guard, Jr.
King emerged as a valuable asset for head coach Connor Copley last season and has even bigger expectations this year. King can shoot from the perimeter, get to the basket and lock up the opposition. Last season the District 1-3A Defensive MVP averaged eight points a contest with two steals a night.
Connor Miller, Canadian, 6-1, guard, Sr.
A great compliment to Camren Cavalier that made up a dangerous backcourt for the Wildcats, Miller will now be called upon as the leader for a very good Canadian team. The reigning District 1-3A MVP and TABC All-Region selection can flat out score averaging 15.7 points a game, shooting 46 percent from 3-point land.
Ryder McElroy, Farwell, 6-3, forward, Sr.
The 6-foot-3 swingman and multi-sport athlete has been a staple on the court for a talented Steers team. McElroy excelled last year earning District Offensive MVP honors as well as being a TABC All-Region selection by scoring 18 points with eight rebounds a game.
Jordan Webber, Canyon, 6-3, forward, Jr.
Webber is looking to fill the role of an unrecognizable Eagles team that lost a veteran senior class. Webber will see his minutes increase significantly and his role completely change if the Eagles want to soar. As a sophomore, Webber scored five points a game with three rebounds.
Kayle Roger, Nazareth, 6-2, forward, Sr.
Nazareth’s leader gives head coach Taylor Schulte a veteran presence on the floor and size in the paint where it counts. The physical Rogers is as good as they come and will have massive expectations for the Swifts this season coming off averaging 15.2 points a game with five rebounds a night as a junior. Rogers was the District MVP as well as an All-State selection.
Brock Butler, Gruver, 5-11, guard, Jr.
The younger brother of former Lady Hound great and now Oklahoma State guard, Brenna, is continuing to make his own name. Butler is a big part of Gruver’s dynamic backcourt where he accounted for seven points a game with three rebounds and three assists last year. For his efforts, Butler was a first-team all-district selection.
Dylan Pohlmeier, Panhandle, 6-0, guard, Sr.
Like the football team, the Panhandle Panthers are extremely talented especially at the guard position. Pohlmeier makes up as good a backcourt as it comes with his ability to push the basketball and get to the basket. As a junior, the all-district selection poured in eight points a game to go with two steals a contest.
Hunter Corman, Wildorado, 6-0, guard, Jr.
Get ready to hear the name Hunter Corman a lot in 2024-2025. Corman came on strong last year for the Mustangs proving he could do it all putting up 13.4 points a game with 4.3 rebounds. Corman hopes to capitalize on a sensational sophomore that gained him all-district honors as well as a TABC All-Region selection.
