Dalhart totaled 23 points holding off Canadian, which finished with 36. Johnson ran her best race of the season in a second-place individual finish clocking a personal-best time of 12:06.52.

Johnson now gears up for the Region I-3A meet set for early next week at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Last season, Johnson was a top 25 finisher at the UIL Class 3A state race.

Coach Stephanie Vogel: “I feel Circe has shifted the energy on this team since she was a freshman. Her and these girls brought a new energy, and you could see that about them since they were in seventh grade. Circe has such a positive attitude and has grown through experience and lives by what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. She goes out every morning and carries the team in practices and shows great leadership.”

Johnson: “It felt so great to go out there and come away with a district championship. This team is special. We all run for each other and push each other. We’re always talking and encouraging to make one another stronger. I think my season individually is going well. I’m pushing myself each week and getting closer to getting into the 11’s. We’ve been working hard since the summer and want to keep this progress up.”
