WTAMU volleyball stays hot with pair of Lone Star Conference road wins

The No. 9 West Texas A&M volleyball team stayed red hot nabbing two Lone Star Conference road wins on Wednesday and Saturday.

The Lady Buffs took down Oklahoma Christian in four-sets Wednesday 25-20, 14-25, 25-12, 25-16, then traveled to rival Eastern New Mexico to get a sweep of the Greyhounds on Saturday, 25-18, 25-12, 25-10.

WTAMU (13-3 overall) has put together seven straight wins while staying unbeaten in conference play at 6-0.

The Lady Buffs stay on the road to battle Dallas Baptist and UT Tyler on Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Kaycee Cavanaugh put on a show with 15 kills to lead the Lady Buffs past OCU on Wednesday.

The Lady Buffs finished the night with 61 kills on 145 attempts with 14 attack errors to hit .324 as a team with 58 assists, four aces, 71 digs and eight blocks.

Oklahoma Christian finished the night with 50 kills on 157 swings with 18 attack errors to hit .204 in the match with 46 assists, two aces, 61 digs and four blocks.

Cavanaugh finished the night with 15 kills on 30 swings with just three errors for an attack percentage of .400 to go along with 14 digs for her sixth double-double of the season.

Amarillo High graduate Currie Marusak registered 14 kills with an attack percentage of .353 while Ainsley Malis paced the WT offense with 26 assists followed by Hannah Pemberton with 23. Hereford graduate Taytum Stow had seven kills and five blocks for the Lady Buffs while Canyon grad Bryli Contreras led the way in the back row with 21 digs.

On Saturday, WTAMU made quick work of ENMU behind a powerful offensive effort.

The Lady Buffs landed 43 kills as a team on 100 swings with 11 attack errors to hit .320 with 42 assists, eight aces, 43 digs and six blocks.

Eastern New Mexico finished the match with 22 kills on 92 attempts with 21 errors for an attack percentage of .011 to go along with 22 assists, four aces, 40 digs and two blocks.

Stow and Camy Jones led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs with eight kills each as they combined for just one attack error on 28 attempts. Jones had six digs and a block while Stow registered four blocks in the win.

Ainsley Malis paced the WT offense with 17 assists followed by Blair Moreland with 10 while Getsemani Carrasco led the way in the back row with nine digs.

Hereford graduate Darcy Dodd finished the afternoon with a match-high nine kills for the Greyhounds.
