Emma Williams, Sanford-Fritch volleyball, Sr.
On the court: The reigning District 1-2A MVP has picked up where she left off last season and has the Sanford-Fritch Lady Eagles back in the drivers seat to win a second straight district title. Last week, Williams was clutch on the front row and the back row in sweeps against West Texas High followed by a showdown against Vega. In the victory over the Lady Comanches, Williams was a force at the net hammering down 13 kills and then went for 13 digs for a double-double on top of four blocks. Against Vega, Williams was the difference in the match as the senior finished with 12 digs and 11 kills for another double-double effort.
On the season, Williams has 398 kills to go with 289 digs, 60 aces and 26 blocks.
Coach Jan Reed: “I tell you what stands out to me about Emma is she loves the sport of volleyball. She loves to be at practice and she loves to play the sport. That’s my favorite thing about her. She has great energy and that’s contagious to the team. I love her outside ability, she’s always had that but she is getting stronger on the back row. She has been on varsity since her freshman year, so now we’re trying to get her better all the way around and make her a complete player. She has embraced that and it’s been amazing to see her growth in this game she loves so much.”
Williams: “I think we’re playing as a team right now and we’re doing a great job of all coming together. I think I’ve made myself a better all-around player this year. I’ve been working hard in practice. I’ve been working on my block and my defense. I’ve worked a lot on digging the ball and getting better at picking my spots on where I hit the ball. We just want to keep getting better, we want to win another district title, and see how far we can go in the playoffs.”
