Bushland beats up Presidio

It was another day with another lopsided win for the Bushland Lady Falcons.

Playing in one-game series on Friday night against Presidio at Midland Greenwood, the Lady Falcons soared to an 11-0 victory in the Class 3A area round.

Through the first two rounds of the postseason Bushland has been on cruise control outscoring both Lubbock Roosevelt and Presidio by a 23-0 count.

Bushland (26-5-1) is now headed to the regional quarterfinals for a matchup with 2-3A champion Shallowater (27-9) at a date and time to be determined.

Senior Brylee Adams handcuffed Presidio hitters through five scoreless innings allowing two hits with eight K’s. Senior Abby Howell delivered a homer finishing with two RBIs and Charley Spinks went 1-for-2 with a double and two runs driven in.

River Road sweeps Alpine

The River Road Lady Wildcats found a way to complete the sweep of Alpine in dramatic fashion on Saturday during a Class 3A area round clash at Big Spring.

The Lady Wildcats opened Friday with a convincing 15-0 win, however, had to battle back for a come-from-behind walk-off victory in game two 6-5.

River Road trailed 5-4 heading into its last at-bat on Saturday but were able to rally. With Gracie Talbott on first, Channing Johnson laid down a bunt and started hustling down the first base line. Alpine had an overthrow to first trying to get Johnson out and that error allowed Talbott to score tying the game up 5-5.

Moments later, Elizabeth Motes drove a single to right field scoring Johnson, giving the Lady Wildcats the thrilling series clinching win.

Ava Sharp was clutch as well going 2-for-3 on Saturday with a homer, a double and two RBIs. Ashlynn Ferris was the MVP of Friday’s opener for River Road hitting two home runs to finish the contest with seven RBIs.
