Bushland routs Dimmitt in last home game

The Bushland Falcons wasted no time in establishing what they wanted to do to close out their home season Tuesday afternoon.

Having already clinched the district championship, the Falcons showed exactly how they got there in a hurry in the final game of the season on their new field. Bushland scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and five in the third to roll over Dimmitt 12-1 in a five-inning 10-run mercy rule decision.

It was simply more of the same for the Falcons (22-2-1, 9-0 in district) from the time they first came to the plate against Dimmitt (13-9, 4-5). Dawson Jaco’s two-run single in the first was the biggest hit in staking Bushland to a 7-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, the Falcons scored five runs on only two hits. They got help from Dimmitt’s defense, which committed four errors.

Jaco, Kade Gavina and Max Rodriguez all drove in two runs each for Bushland. Cannon Melban and Stratton Molloy combined to give up only two hits on the mound.

River Road eliminated by Dalhart

River Road’s meaningful portion of the regular season came to an end on the road, as the Wildcats lost to Dalhart 7-3 and go into the final game of the year knowing they won’t make the playoffs.

The Wildcats (9-11, 2-7) needed to win their final two regular season games and get some help if they were to make the playoffs. Both teams scored a run in the first inning, but Dalhart (8-6, 5-4) scored four in the bottom of the second to take the lead for good. River Road scored two in the top of the third but couldn’t score again.

This means the district’s playoff representatives will be Bushland, Tulia, Dalhart and Dimmitt. Only Bushland’s No. 1 seed is guaranteed headed into Friday’s finale.

In the districts other game, Tulia beat Friona 20-9.

District 3-5A

Amarillo High beats Plainview, stays unbeaten in district

The Amarillo High Sandies made sure that they would head into their final home game at the end of the week with a chance at an unbeaten district season.

Amarillo High already had a district championship, but the Sandies jumped on Plainview early and cruised to a 5-1 victory on the road. That set up the possibility for the Sandies (21-8, 11-0) of a perfect district season when they host Plainview (13-15, 7-4) on Friday in the district finale.

The Sandies took a 4-0 lead in the top of the second and were never seriously threatened. They scored another run in the top of the fifth and Plainview’s lone run came in the bottom of the inning.

Clayton Norrell threw the first five innings for the win and Tate Blackwell pitched the final two for the save. Noah Markert had two hits and drove in two runs for the Sandies.

In the other district game, Caprock routed Palo Duro 12-3. That sets the district’s playoff seeding order, as Caprock (9-14, 5-6) clinched the No. 3 seed, as the worst the Longhorns can do is tie Tascosa for third place, and Caprock wins the tiebreaker by virtue of beating the Rebels two out of three. Plainview is the No. 2 seed.

Palo Duro fell to 3-24 and 0-11.

District 4-4A

Randall grinds out win over Borger to stay unbeaten in district

The Randall Raiders saw their scoreless inning streak on the mound come to an end at Borger, but not their winning streak.

Borger scored in the bottom of the first to end Randall’s string of 65 innings without giving up an earned run, but the Raiders never trailed as they won 11-7. Randall (19-9, 13-0) can clinch a second straight unbeaten district season at home against Pampa on Friday.

The Raiders had a big day at the plate. Dylan Ray had two hits and a three-run home run in the first to get Randall on the board while Hagen Shedd and Kaison Benton both had two hits and drove in two runs.

Borger fell to 5-19-1 and 1-12.

Canyon run rules Dumas on the road

The Canyon Eagles stayed tied for second in district by beating Dumas 13-2 in a six-inning run rule win.
Canyon (21-6-1, 9-3) took a 7-0 lead after three innings to take control of the game. The Eagles led 11-2 heading into the sixth when they scored two runs to attain the run rule margin.
Carson Allen and Sam Johnson both drove in two runs for the Eagles. Allen, Christian McGuire, Zabian Urteaga and Noah Sanchez all had two hits.
Colt Cruth threw four innings to earn the win on the mound. Dumas is now 7-20 and 3-10.

West Plains rolls past Pampa

West Plains did all of is damage offensively in the first three innings, as the Wolves cruised over Pampa 8-1 and stayed tied with Canyon for second place.
The Wolves (23-6, 10-3) got all they needed with three runs in the top of the first, as Bryton Bertrand hit a two-run homer to give West Plains a 3-0 lead. Bertrand and winning pitcher Ethan Bentley both had two hits.
Bentley, Will Grisham and Micah Velasquez combined to hold Pampa (7-17, 3-10) to one run on five hits.

In the other clash out of 4-4A, Perryton knocked off Hereford 9-5.

District 1-2A

Sunray stings West Texas High

The Sunray Bobcats stayed atop the District 1-2A standings thanks to strong hitting and dominant pitching to down West Texas High 9-1 at home on Tuesday afternoon.

The Bobcats move to 10-1 in district and 14-4 overall. WT High drops to 9-11 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Sunray opened the game up in the first inning plating three runs behind an Ivan Delarosa RBI single. Delarosa put the bat on the ball well against Comanche pitching finishing the game 3-for-4. Teammate Arnold Mendoza also did his job driving in four runs including a two-run triple going 2-for-4 on the day.

On the mound, Parker Johnson worked 4.1 innings to get the victory scattering three hits without allowing a run while racking up eight strikeouts.

Gruver kept pace with Sunray by going on the road and getting a hard fought 2-0 shutout against Booker on Tuesday.

The Greyhounds are now 9-1 in district and 13-5 overall.

In the other district clash, Sanford-Fritch beat Boys Ranch 21-11.

District 2-2A

Nazareth stayed hot getting a lopsided win over Valley 13-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Swifts are now 8-1 in District 2-2A and 11-4 overall. Claude stayed right behind Nazareth blanking Kress 4-0. The Mustangs (12-5-1 overall) are 5-2 in the league.

Wellington handled Shamrock 17-7 that helped the Skyrockets improve to 5-3 overall and 5-2 in district. Clarendon’s game against Memphis that was scheduled for Tuesday has been moved to Monday.
