WTAMU Lady Buffs get home sweep of Cameron and Midwestern State

The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs are starting to take steps in the right direction after getting a weekend sweep of Lone Star Conference rivals Cameron and Midwestern State on Thursday and Saturday at the First United Bank Center.

The Lady Buffs opened up the weekend on Thursday with a hard-fought home win against the Aggies getting a 69-65 victory then capped off the homestand with a convincing 67-56 victory against MSU on Saturday.

WTAMU moves to 13-9 overall and stay in the middle of the pack of the league standings at 8-6.

Wellington product and Lady Buff guard Kyla Kane capitalized on her hot play from the previous week by stepping up in the win over MSU. Kane tallied a game-high 17 points on Saturday going 6-of-15 from the field including 3-of-8 from 3-point land to go with three rebounds and three blocks. Karley Motschenbacher chipping in with 15 points and 10 boards for a double-double.

WTAMU ended the game going 44.6 percent (25-of-46) from the field with 41 boards.

On Thursday night, the Lady Buffs build a dominating lead early and never relinquished in an impressive outing against the Aggies.

Lady Buff post player Nyalam Thabach was the catalyst in the win for WTAMU posting 18 points going a solid 8-of-12 from the floor while adding eight boards.  Teammate Grace Alvarez finished with 11 points and five assists while Jayla Burgess chipped in 10 points in the win.

The Lady Buffs finished the night going 28-of-64 (43.8%) from the floor and were lights out beyond the arc shooting an eye-opening 53.3 percent (8-of-15).

The Lady Buffs continue LSC action by hitting the road for a matchup at UT Permian Basin at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
