The results were quite familiar Friday at the District 3-5A wrestling meet at Caprock, at least as far as the top two teams in the boys and girls’ standings.

Both the Randall boys and Dumas girls teams repeated as district champions by varying margins. Randall’s boys won with 230 points, edging second place Dumas by seven points, while the Dumas girls finished with 190 points, 30 points ahead of second place Randall.

On the boys’ side, the lower weights were where Randall essentially sewed up the team title. From weights 113 through 138, Randall won five straight matches in the meet format which starts with the lightest weights then heads upward.

Mikey Ruiz stayed undefeated at 113 pounds, improving to 33-0 by pinning Caprock’s Gavin Alvarado at 3:35. Ruiz was followed atop the victory stand by Randall teammates Rylan Jones (120), Hunter Hendricks (126), Kason White (132) and Nathaniel Ruiz (138).

Dumas had three individual winners and also had a wrestler stay undefeated, as Bronson Baxter improved to 34-0 at 157 by defeating Tascosa’s Noah Santiago 5-4 in the finals. Other individual winners for Dumas were Carlos Magallanes at 106 and Alberto Sanchez at 190.

Tascosa also had three individual champions with Thomas Pacheco (144), Jaxon Johnson (215) and Isaiah Ortiz (285).

For the girls, Dumas had a pair of individual champions. Berkley Funderburg won at 107 and Elaina Morgan took the title at 138.

Randall, Tascosa and Hereford also had two winners apiece. Morgan Green (145) and Emma Heaton (165) both won titles for Randall, Zurri Zamora (100) and Miliyah Pacheco (120) won for Tascosa and Maira Villarreal (126) and Mareetza Maceda (185) took home gold for Hereford.
