On the court: Hayes kept the Clarendon Lady Broncos unbeaten in district and she did in a very dramatic way last Friday. With the score tied at 29 against Wellington and 1.1 seconds left in what had been a defensive struggle, the Lady Broncos inbounded the ball from underneath their own basket. Hayes dribbled and launched a shot from midcourt as the regulation horn sounded which found nothing but net to give Clarendon an improbable 32-29 victory.

Hayes finished with 11 points against the Lady Skyrockets with six rebounds, three assists to go with three steals. In a win against Shamrock earlier in the week, the sophomore poured in 15 points with five assists, four boards and three steals.

Coach Korey Conkin: “I haven’t been a part of something as dramatic as that. We didn’t have much time on the clock, so it was a great shock. One person I never doubt is Kenidee. She loves to have the ball in her hands, and we never hesitate to go to her. She spends more time in the gym than anyone I know and works so hard. She probably never even thought twice about having ball in her hands.”

Hayes: “Sometimes I do think about situations. I knew ball was going to me. My goal was to just get as close to the basket as I could and give it a chance. I couldn’t believe it went in. It was just total shock. It was an awesome feeling, and I was happy for the team. I feel we’re playing well and growing a lot. Especially with a win like that. We’ve been coming together, and I feel we’ve gotten a lot better from the start of the year.”
