On Tuesday, the former Amarillo High and Texas Tech outside hitter announced via her social media accounts that she has transferred to West Texas A&M.
“I’m super excited to be a Lady Buff and be a part of such a special program,” Marusak said. “I love the environment and I’m going to be closer to my family. I’ll probably get some more home cooked meals now. I love what “The Box” brings and I love the WTAMU coaches. It’s going to be great.”
“I loved my time at Texas Tech,” Marusak said. “But I was looking for more opportunities and make my last two years really count. Coach Potts contacted me and it was the recruitment process all over again. I learned so much at Texas Tech and made some great friends. I want to win a national championship, and WTAMU offers that and opportunity. I feel I can be a big impact and give back to the program with hard work.”
Marusak adds that playing for the Red Raiders gave her an advantage that will make her even more valuable for the Lady Buffs.
“I learned a lot about game at Texas Tech,” Marusak said. “It gave me opportunity to learn and grow my volleyball IQ. I’m undersized (6-foot) in the Big 12, so I had to learn how to be smartest on the floor by moving ball around. Being small doesn’t mean I’m not capable. Now I see court better and predicting what happens next. Those are biggest thing I learned and finding different ways to score.”
Marusak, who was a four-year standout at AHS as well as the 2021 Co-Press Pass Volleyball Player of the Year, comes to the Lady Buffs at the perfect time. After making a third straight appearance in the NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament and playing for a second straight national championship just 10 days ago, WTAMU is having to say goodbye to special talents like outside hitter Torrey Miller who graduated after an outstanding career. Marusak is also thrilled to be joining a team full of Texas Panhandle talent that includes former Lady Sandie teammate Ashlyn Vinyard.
“I’m so excited to play with Ashlyn Vinyard again,” Marusak said. “I played club volleyball with Taytum Stow, and she is a stud. Playing with Texas Panhandle talent again and seeing how they’ve grown is exciting. I can’t wait to see how they have grown as people and athletes. I also love the support WTAMU fans give to the program. It’s going to be fun.”
