Wyatt Davis, Canadian football, Jr.

On the field: Like he’s done all season, Davis once again made himself a huge hand on the defensive side of the ball during the Canadian Wildcats 31-12 win over Wall in the UIL Class 3A Division II state quarterfinals.

Davis racked up a total of 18 tackles with two quarterback hurries against the Hawks. On the season, the junior linebacker is having a breakout year not only leading the Wildcats with 161 total tackles but that also leads the Texas Panhandle. Davis has 22 tackles for a loss, four sacks with three fumble recoveries and an interception.

Coach Andy Cavalier: “Wyatt Davis loves playing football as much as anyone as I’ve ever been around. He’s an absolute pleasure to coach and I’ve loved having Wyatt in his time here. What makes Wyatt special is he’s a well-rounded football player. We know we can put him anywhere and he can have big impact, because he has great physical tools. He made strides on offense blocking and receiving but he’s just excellent all over the field especially on defense.”

Davis: “I think as a team we played a very physical style against Wall. We needed that because we don’t see a lot of option teams and we were able to execute and move on to face Gunter. Personally, I think I played pretty good against Wall. I think there are things I can still get better at and improve on. But, overall, from last year I’ve gotten a lot better. I love helping lead the team and grow as a player. It’s just fun getting to spend every day with my teammates.”
