Reid Macon, West Plains, QB, So.
Macon had another lights out performance helping keep the red-hot West Plains Wolves to a share of the District 2-4A Division II title with a win 72-6 thumping of Perryton on Thursday night. The sophomore sensation tore up the Ranger secondary going 12-of-19 for 275 yards with five touchdown passes to five different receivers.
Briggs Satterfield and Michael McCloy, Gruver, QB-WR
This QB-WR combo led the Greyhounds to the comeback of the year in the Texas Panhandle. Trailing 34-8 late in the second quarter, Gruver made a furious rally in the second half to stun No. 4 Sunray 42-41 in a key District 1-2A Division II clash. Satterfield put his name out there as an up-and-coming quarterback going 21-of-32 for 352 yards with four TD tosses. McCloy was the main target for Satterfield snagging eight catches for 210 yards including a huge 98-yard scoring connection in the fourth quarter.
Canyon Eagles offensive line
The unit made up of – Santiago Sanchez, left tackle; Zach Garcia, left guard; Jacoby Rempel, center; Garrett Rosser, right guard; Alex Kilgore, right tackle – mashed the Randall Raiders for four quarters of a 48-7 beating to help the Eagles regain the GOAT Trophy in this rivalry. Behind these talented linemen, Canyon rushed for an impressive 521 yards as a team with four rushing touchdowns.
Caleb Strickland, Wellington, DL-LB, Jr.
Wellington’s defense continues to be the talk of District 2-2A Division II. Through three league wins, the Skyrockets have pitched three straight shutouts and outscored Shamrock, Memphis and Wheeler by a combined 146-0. Strickland is a huge reason for that defensive success, and it showed in a 46-0 blanking of Wheeler on Friday as the junior racked up 12 tackles, two for a loss with a sack.
Colton Reynolds, Bushland, LB, Jr.
Reynolds was all over the field during the Falcons statement win over Shallowater 35-3. The junior linebacker, and son of head coach Josh Reynolds, played his best game of the year making 10 tackles, three of those coming for a loss, and forced a fumble. The Bushland defense held Shallowater to 167 total yards and forced five turnovers on the night.
Scout smith, Childress, QB-LB, Sr.
Smith only carried the ball three times but made two of those count in a major way during the Bobcat clutch 28-21 win over Spearman. Calling his own number in a special package implemented for the senior, Smith scored Childress’ first touchdown on a two-yard QB keeper, then plunged his way in from a yard out with 50 seconds to play in the fourth quarter that gave the Bobcats the dramatic victory. Smith also did his job on the defensive side of the ball with nine tackles.
Colton Mills, Dumas, QB, Fr.
The freshman put on a terrific outing in the Demons 56-7 blasting of Pampa on Friday night. Mills, who is growing and getting better by the week, picked a part the Harvesters going 15-of-21 for 259 yards with four touchdown passes. Behind Mills’ effort, Dumas racked up 503 yards of offense overall.
K.J Jennings, Borger, QB, Sr.
Jennings gutted out an injury to step up and lead Borger to a come-from-behind 36-28 win over Levelland and a spot in the Class 4A Division II playoffs. At one point, the Bulldogs trailed 21-0 to the Lobos, but behind Jennings and his 354 yards of combined offense with five touchdowns, Borger was able to get the huge win. Jennings finished rushing for 202 yards with four TDs and passed for 152 yards with another score.
Jack Lunsford, Dimmitt, QB, Soph.
Lunsford lifted Dimmitt to its first district win in almost two years by handling Tulia 43-27 on Friday night. The dual-threat sophomore QB racked up 113 yards rushing with a pair of touchdowns and threw for 91 yards with two more scores.
Mason Sims, Clarendon, RB, Jr.
Sims had the night of his life in the Broncos 42-6 blowout win over Memphis. Complimenting teammate Lyric Smith, Sims had a game to remember chewing up the Cyclones defense for 332 yards on the ground on 24 carries, averaging 13.8 yards a carry, with three touchdowns.
