Class 4A

West Plains (3-1) at Lubbock Estacado (4-0), 7 p.m.
One of the best matchups in the area will kick off the week as two high-powered offenses clash in Lubbock. Last season, the Wolves got a signature victory over Estacado in their first season for their first home win ever. West Plains won’t be able to sneak up on the Matadors this year, especially on the road. This figures to be a shootout and give the Wolves another signature win in a mild upset. … West Plains 35, Estacado 34

Class 1A

Jayton (4-0) at Silverton (3-1), 7:30 p.m.
The marquee matchup in Six-Man this week as the No. 2 Jaybirds visit the Owls. Jayton is loaded with talent and will pose a difficult matchup for Silverton. Kevin Hurn’s team is playing well and will need to rely on ball control and the fleet footed Sawyer Francis to come up big. Silverton plays well at home, but Jayton is playing at another level. … Jayton 54, Silverton 24

Amarillo High (1-3, 0-0) vs. Tascosa (1-2, 0-0), 7 p.m. at Buffaloes Stadium 
The 67th meeting of the AHS-THS rivalry is here, Picking this winner? Oh, dear, dear. Both teams arrive having one of four games. Sometimes looking awesome, sometimes up in flames. This a district game adding more for the winner. So, look for trick plays, no place for a beginner. Tascosa struggles to score these days. So, go with Amarillo High making the bigger plays. … Amarillo High 31, Tascosa 21

Abilene High (2-2, -0-0) at Lubbock Monterey (2-2, 0-0)
Abilene High has lost two in a row, but I think every team in this district would be the same after playing Midland Legacy and Frenship. Hey, Monterey already owns two more wins than a year ago. My pick to win this district is Abilene, so it wins in Lubbock. … Abilene High 34, Monterey 29

Non-District

Randall (3-1) at Palo Duro (1-2), 7 p.m.
Randall has won three in a row under first-year coach Dan Sherwood averaging 37 points a game in those wins. Palo Duro played much better last week vs. West Plains than it did against Estacado two weeks ago. Key to this one? Can PD’s defense get Randall off the field. … Randall 31, Palo Duro 27

Midland Greenwood (0-4) at Canyon (3-1), 7 p.m.
This seems like the ideal time for Canyon to have Homecoming in one of the last tune-ups for district play against winless Greenwood. While Greenwood has shown an ability to put points on the board, Canyon’s defense has usually risen to the occasion, as evidenced by last week’s shutout of Caprock. Sam Johnson has emerged as a reliable two-way player, just one reason the Eagles will prevail. … Canyon 31, Greenwood 14

Plainview (4-0) at Hereford (4-0), 7 p.m.
It’s one of the few matchups anywhere between two unbeaten teams, both of whom have already exceeded last year’s win totals. Hereford opened some eyes by leading Tascosa 26-14 on the road last week in a game stopped in the third quarter due to lightning. The Whitefaces don’t look like a fluke, and a strong passing attack led by Kalub Ramirez will prove that to the Bulldogs. … Hereford 38, Plainview 28

Perryton (0-4) at Pampa (1-3), 7 p.m.
In the matchup of Highway 70, these teams both desperately need something to get momentum going before starting their respective districts. Both suffered lopsided defeats to ranked teams last week and have to hope the beatings have made them wise. Even young and banged up, the Harvesters have the slightest edge in depth and homefield advantage, therefore the edge. … Pampa 21, Perryton 18

Dalhart (4-0) at Borger (2-2), 7 p.m.
These teams should find out a bit more about themselves after this one. Class 3A Dalhart has flown under the radar to an unbeaten start, while improved Borger is hoping to bounce back after a shutout loss to Bushland. This should be a competitive contest, but Dalhart’s defense and quarterback Kyler Read give the Golden Wolves a slight advantage in the end. … Dalhart 23, Borger 19

Despite the 1-3 record, the Demons will be amped and looking for an upset. A year ago, Bushland stormed into Dumas and left with a lopsided victory. The Demons will bring the fight, but will they have enough offensive firepower for a stout Bushland defense. … Bushland 35, Dumas 17

Muleshoe (4-0) at Abernathy (2-2), 7 p.m.
This is the toughest test to date for a Muleshoe team that’s off to its best start in 13 years. The Mules offensive has been flat out explosive averaging 49.5 points a game. The Antelopes will hang in, but Muleshoe prevails. … Muleshoe 38, Abernathy 21

Highland Park (3-1) at Dimmitt (1-3), 7 p.m.

The Greyhounds pulled off a massive upset in the Hansford County battle last season on a Thursday night in Spearman. Expect another great game in this rivalry on Friday between two communities separated by only 13 miles. … Gruver 22, Spearman 21

Wellington (3-1) at Panhandle (4-0), 7 p.m.
Here’s a definite game of the night contender. Wellington loves to grind it out and limit possessions while the Panthers want to run and gun with high tempo. After winning their fourth straight game to start the season against Paducah, the Warriors will make the 200-mile trip south looking to stay undefeated. The Golden Lions will be look more like tiger cubs as Miami makes short work of the overmatched Christ the King squad. …Miami 60, Lubbock Christ the King 12

Booker (3-1) at Follett (2-2), 7 p.m. 
It was 1988 is the last time these two schools squared off on the gridiron in which Follett won 7-0 but the Kiowas lead the all-time series 15-11-1. You aren’t going to see a low scoring affair like the last time they met but the winner will remain the same as the experienced Panthers are too much for Booker. … Follett 46, Booker 18

White Deer (3-1) at Springlake-Earth (2-2), 7 p.m. 
You have to admire the guts and spirit of Justin Rucker’s squad as they have surprised many with a 3-1 start to the season.  The Wolverines, however, are a talented team stinging from two straight losses by a combined total of ten points.  The Bucks will play hard but Springlake-Earth at home is too much to overcome. …Springlake-Earth 54, White Deer 20

Wildorado (1-3) at Whiteface (4-0), 7 p.m. 
Coming in at No. 5 in the latest sixmanfootball.com rankings, the Antelopes are playing hard-nosed, mistake free football and looking like a team to be reckoned with in Region II. That type of team is not good news for the Mustangs. …Whiteface 60, Wildorado 6

Amarillo PCHEA (1-3) at Lefors (0-4), 7 p.m. 
What great timing for the Pirates to get the home school team from Amarillo.  After four straight losses to start the season, Lefors finds the win column in a big way. …Lefors 56, Amarillo PCHEA 8

McLean (3-1) at Groom (2-2), 7:30 p.m.
Barring something very unusual, the Tigers will win this game.  Which one you ask?  Groom plays well at home, but McLean is just at another level right now in comparison. …McLean 48, Groom 24

This should be a tight game as the Broncos are riding a high after picking up their first victory of the season last week. Claude has been in a downward spiral the last couple of weeks but that stops on the road. …Claude 44, Meadow 32

What a performance last week from Nick Clark as the Owls got back to .500 against Patton Springs.  The only comparison between Patton Springs and Paducah is both towns begin with the letter P.  The Dragons are just too talented for Hedley to win this one. …Paducah 60, Hedley 12

Nazareth (2-2) at O’Donnell (4-0), 7:30 p.m.
On paper, the Eagles look like the clear-cut favorites, but all four wins have come against suspect opponents. The duo of Will Young and Kayle Rogers connected three times for scores against a Valley team that is likely better than O’Donnell. Valley (2-2) at Petersburg (1-3), 7:30 p.m.
Coming off an overtime victory over Nazareth, the Patriots could be forgiven for a letdown, but I just don’t see it. The Buffaloes haven’t been as solid as expected so Valley gets a second straight win. …Valley 52, Petersburg 36
