Caden Peevey, Shamrock, RB-LB, Sr.
Peevey did everything he was asked of to make sure the Irish left Highland Park with a 56-47 shootout victory on Friday. Offensively, the senior running back sliced his way through the Highland Park defense piling up 202 yards on 14 carries scoring four touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball Peevey was equally impressive leading the team with 13 tackles.
Kyler Read, Dalhart, QB, So.
What Read and his team did on Friday night will never be forgotten. Playing with heavy hearts after the loss of their close friend and teammate, Yahir Cancino, only a week prior, Read helped lead the Golden Wolves to a dramatic 43-35 victory over Spearman. The sophomore, who is also the son of Dalhart head coach Joey Read, played with Yahir’s heart on his sleeve, as he went 13-of-20 for 171 yards with three touchdowns and ran the ball 18 times for 121 yards with two more TDs.
Mason Graham, Amarillo High, QB, Jr.
Amarillo High picked up its first win of the year 27-8 at Midland High and Graham was a huge part of it. The 6-foot-5 junior was nearly perfect through the air going 14-of-18 (78 percent) for 201 yards and three touchdown tosses. Graham even did work out of the pocket rushing for 54 yards.
Landyn Hack, Panhandle, QB-LB, Sr.
Not many players in the state have been on quite the roll that Hack has been on to start the 2022 campaign. Hack once again was electrifying during a 68-33 win over Vega. Hack blistered the Longhorn defense for 294 yards on the ground with five touchdowns, he threw for 152 yards with all three completions resulting in scores and delivered a 70-yard pick six. In total Hack ended the game 446 yards of offense and accounted for nine touchdowns.
Joaquin Segovia, Vega, QB-RB-DB, Sr.
Despite a loss to Panhandle, 68-33, Segovia’s performance can’t be ignored. The senior do-it-all standout found rarified air while putting his team on his back rushing for an incredible 442 yards against the Panthers and was a part of all five Longhorn touchdowns. On the defensive side of the ball Segovia made six tackles.
Tray Toliver, Borger, QB, Sr.
The senior had arguably the best game of his career during the Bulldogs 44-8 rout of Snyder. Toliver, the son of Borger head coach Duane Toliver, stacked up 190 yards rushing on 11 carries with a touchdown and threw for 90 yards.
Emmanuel Ibanez, Dumas, QB-DB, Sr.
The talented Ibanez helped Dumas to a second straight win as the Demons’ edged Perryton 27-25 on Friday. At quarterback Ibanez led Dumas with 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. Defensively he made four tackles with three pass breakups and on kicking duties Ibanez averaged 43.5 yards a punt.
Dylan Ray, Randall, RB, So.
The sophomore running back had a breakout performance during Randall’s 41-6 pummeling of Snyder toting the rock 18 times for 118 yards with two touchdowns.
Dawson Jaco, Bushland, QB, Jr.
The junior gunslinger has the Falcons offense flying high as he dominated the Childress defense during a 43-0 shutout going 21-of-29 for 364 yards with four touchdowns. Bushland is off to a very impressive 3-0 start to the year.
Sebastian Kirven, Muleshoe, QB, Jr.
Kirvin ensured a terrific performance that helped Muleshoe to its first win over rival Friona since 2017. During the 39-20 victory, Kirvin beat Friona through the air going 13-of-25 for 251 yards with four touchdowns. He then used his feet rushing for 114 yards on 16 carries for another score.
