Alana Strong, Caprock, basketball, Sr.

On the court: Strong had an outstanding week leading Caprock to a pair of wins over rivals Tascosa and Palo Duro. In a big 62-55 victory against the Lady Rebels, Strong gave Tascosa fits on offense scoring a game-high 28 points to go with 10 rebounds for a double-double. The senior and three-year starter followed that effort by pouring in 22 points as the Lady Longhorns knocked off the Lady Dons 40-26.

On the season, Strong has been a durable leader for Caprock Head Coach David Smiley averaging 13.4 points a game, adding 3.5 rebounds per contest, and 2.7 steals.

Coach David Smiley: “Alana is so smooth as a player that I never notice how many points she is scoring. She can score in multiple ways, and just makes everyone around her better. She did such a good job of breaking Tascosa’s pressure defense, then she stepped up and played unbelievable against Palo Duro. Alana has meant everything to our program on and off the court the last three years. We’re going to miss her leadership and everything she represents as a Lady Longhorn.”

Strong: “I feel we were starting to play better and our chemistry was getting better with everyone being healthy. I love this team, and I love playing basketball for Caprock. We’ve had a lot of confidence going and I feel we were able to finish the season strong. My goal was to go out and gain more confidence every time I was on the court, make plays, and not turn the ball over. That was important to me.”
