AHS stays hot

The No. 2 Amarillo High Lady Sandies rang in 2021 with a convincing 78-61 victory of crosstown rival Tascosa on Tuesday night.

AHS had five players score in double figures led by Briley Barnes 16 points, followed by Rachel Haase’s 15 points. The Lady Sandies are now 2-0 in district and 11-1 overall. Tascosa drops to 7-10, 1-1.

Lynxettes nab big road win

Spearman held off Bushland 42-39 in a thrilling District 1-3A opener. In a battle of two teams expected to compete for the district title this matchup didn’t disappoint. Both teams came out firing as the Lady Falcons took a 26-23 lead into halftime. But the second half was a different story, as the Lynxettes defense held Bushland to 13 second half points. Yasmin Anguiano of Spearman all scorers with 16 points. Bushland’s Taryn Shultz had a team-high 13. The Lynxettes are now 9-5, 1-0, while Bushland is 8-6, 0-1.

Tuesday’s top performers

Highland Park’s Cassie McGlurg poured in 25 points to lead the Lady Hornets to a 39-34 overtime win against River Road.

Mattie Boyd and Briley Merket combined for 36 points during Canadian‘s 50-40 win against Dalhart. Boyd and Merket each had 18.

Presley Agee of Farwell put up 22 of Farwell’s 44 points to help the Lady Blue get past Olton 44-35 for a win in the District 3-2A opener.
