West Texas High head football coach Steven Flowers has accepted the offensive coordinator position at Seminole, and was approved during a board meeting Monday night.
Flowers, 44, has spent the past six seasons building the Comanches into one of the top small school program’s in the Texas Panhandle. That includes a 10-3 record last fall, earning the school’s first district title in 23 years, while making run to the Class 2A Division I regional round.
“First of all I can’t say thank you enough to West Texas High,” said Flowers, who was 40-28 overall in six seasons at WT High. “I came to WT because athletic director Jimmy Amaro and superintendent Bill Wiggins. They wanted to get the program back to the success it was like when they were coaching in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The support they gave me to make kids better was unbelievable. “No coach can win without administration support. Shawna Lamb (elementary school principal), Rocky Ford (middle school principal), and Kent Torbert are all the best and do what’s right for kids. That’s hard to find in an administration, and I can’t say enough for what they all did for my family.”
Flowers, who also spent three seasons as the head coach at Bushland from 2011-2013, says he’s excited to join Seminole head football coach Ty Palmer as an assistant, and start a new chapter for he and his family.
“I’m excited to get a taste of a bigger school,” said Flowers, who is 59-45 in his head coaching career. “I’ve always coached at the small school level, and this will be a challenge. I will give coach (Ty) Palmer my all, and do the best to help us win games. It also allows me to take a step back and spend more time with my family. I won’t have the pressures or take home the work as a head coach or athletic director does.”
Palmer is bringing Flowers in to help the Indians change their offense to more of a balance look from it’s traditional triple option.

Steven Coursey has been named Tulia’s new athletic director and head football coach.
Coursey was approved during a board meeting Monday night.
Coursey has spent the last four years as the Perryton head football coach, amassing a 17-27 overall record. However, Coursey did lead the Rangers to a 9-2 record and a District 1-4A Division II District championship in 2016.
“I’m really excited about this new chapter for my family,” Coursey said. “Ive been impressed with the administration, especially with all that is going on in the world. They’ve done a great job of making stuff work. I feel Tulia has some kids that can play. They community is supportive and those kids want to be better and improve. They are only two years removed from going three rounds deep in the playoffs. I think also being an athletic director is a big deal to me. I love and support all sports and want to see them succeed, so I’m ready to get going.”
Coursey, 34, inherits a Hornets team that was 4-6 a year ago, but two seasons ago finished 8-5 while making a run to the Class 3A Division II regional round.
