Saturday’s game

Tascosa (3-1) vs. Brownsville Hanna (2-2), 5 p.m. Anthony Field at Wildcats Stadium, Abilene. 

Hanna beat the Rebs last year so no problem with motivation in this one. Tascosa offense starting to click and that will be enough in this one. … Tascosa 38, Hanna 24

Class 5A

Friday’s games

Palo Duro (2-2, 0-0) vs. Caprock (0-4, 0-0), 7:30 p.m. 

District 2-5A D-I opener between AISD teams. Hmmm. Here’s the deal. Rock played a tougher nondistrict schedule. PD owning momentum from strong win over Borger. … Caprock 21, Palo Duro 20

Frenship (3-1) at Randall (1-3), 7 p.m.

Frenship quarterback Donovan Smith is the real deal – and then some. Randall still looking for consistency. I believe it will find during district. … Frenship 35,  Randall 17

Dumas (4-0) at Wichita Falls Rider (2-2), 7 p.m. Memorial Stadium.

By far the toughest test of the year for coach Aaron Dunnam and his talented Dumas Demons. Dumas is coming off back-to-back shutouts. Rider is tougher at home with a win over Amarillo High to its credit. Wild one with Dumas hungry to stay unbeaten. … Dumas 34, Rider 31

Canyon (4-0) at Borger (1-3), 7 p.m.

It’s a chore trying to stop a very balanced Canyon offense at the moment. Eagles soar to 5-0. … Canyon 40, Borger 10

Hereford (2-2) at Plainview (1-3), 7 p.m. 

A heavy dose of a Whiteface ground game will be tough for the Bulldogs to contain. Hereford wears down the Dawgs down in the second half. … Hereford 34, Plainview 7

Pampa (3-1) at Perryton (1-3), 7 p.m. 

If the Harvesters offense clicks, it will be a long night for the Rangers, but this game depends on which Perryton team shows up. They’ve been up and down all year. … Pampa 29, Perryton 13

Dalhart (3-1) at Friona (4-0), 7 p.m.

Friona hasn’t forgotten a season ago when they were 4-0, traveled to Dalhart and got dismantled, 40-0. That loss set the Chieftains in a downward spiral. It should be a closer outcome this time around, but the Golden Wolves prevail. … Dalhart 28, Friona 22

Bushland (4-0) at Levelland (1-3), 7 p.m.

What a start to the year for a high flying Falcons team. They are built by solid defense, and an offense led by QB Jared Thomas who is throwing for 265 yards a game. … Bushland 35, Levelland 20

Sanford-Fritch (0-4) at River Road (1-3), 7 p.m.

The Eagles are banged up while the Wildcats are feeling good coming off their first win. Make it two in a row for coach Bryan Welps and his team. … River Road 34, Sanford-Fritch 14

West Texas High (2-2) at Spearman (3-1), 7 p.m.

Both teams are coming off tough losses last week. The Lynx are wanting to head into their bye week with momentum while Comanches are closing out a gauntlet of a nondistrict schedule. … WT High 30, Spearman 16

Saturday’s game

Canadian (4-0) vs. Grapevine Faith (4-0), 2 p.m. Leo Brittain Field, Vernon. 

It’s a battle of unbeatens in what should be a dandy on Saturday in Vernon. Canadian is ranked No. 2 in Class 3A. The Lions are ranked No. 5 in all of TAPPS. Last year, Grapevine Faith handed Canadian its only regular season loss. Will it happen again? … Grapevine Faith 30, Canadian 21

Friday’s games

Wellington (3-1) at Panhandle (4-0), 7 p.m.

One of the premier Class 2A games in the state will be played at Panther Stadium on Friday. The Skyrockets travel to Panhandle after a dominating performance slowing down a dynamic West Texas High offense. Panhandle remains unbeaten and will continue that streak this week after a tight game at home. … Panhandle 42, Wellington 33

Gruver (3-1) at Highland Park (2-2), 7 p.m.

The Greyhounds travel to Highland Park to take on a ground-based Hornet team. Look for Gruver to have a stellar offensive performance on the road. … Gruver 49, Highland Park 18

Vega (3-1) at Sunray (0-4), 7 p.m.

The Longhorns are coming off a devastating loss to Panhandle, but will aim to redeem themselves in Sunray. The Bobcats are winless so far,, but are indeed hungry for a win. … Vega 42, Sunray 15

Dimmitt (1-3) at Farwell (2-2), 7:30 p.m.

Farewell is slowly getting their wheels turning in 2019. Dimmitt still struggles offensively but will be a task for the Steers. … Farwell 28, Dimmitt 13

Bovina (2-2) at Hale Center (2-2), 7:30 p.m.

Bovina travels to Hale Center to take on the Owls Friday night. Look for Bovina to take time off the clock in a hard running game while Hale Center attempts to hold their own. … Bovina 28, Hale Center 21

Stratford (3-1) vs. Hamlin (3-1), 7 p.m. Antelope Stadium, Abernathy.

Could we be seeing a future Class 2A Division II state semifinal matchup in September. Elks out of Region I are ranked No. 10 in the state, and are more than eager to get a crack at a Hamlin team from Region II that’s ranked No. 1 in DII. It should be a dandy in Abernathy. Let’s go with the Elks. … Stratford 35, Hamlin 31

Memphis (1-3) at Clarendon (2-2), 7 p.m.

Clarendon looks for its third win of the season as they play a building Cyclones team. … Clarendon 38, Memphis 20

Smyer (2-1) vs. Shamrock (1-3), 7 p.m. Canyon High School

The Irish will face off against Smyer in Friday’s neutral site matchup in Canyon. Shamrock has seen its fair share of adversity so far only winning one game on the year.. … Smyer 34, Shamrock 29

Friday’s Games

McLean (3-1) at Lefors (2-1), 7:30 p.m.

Valley (2-2) at Groom (3-1), 7:30 p.m.

This is a measuring stick game for the Patriots. After a great 2-0 start to the season, Valley has lost back-to-back games. This one will determine the outlook on the season going forward. On the other side of the ball, the Tigers are looking good. The Groom offense fueled by Gunner Lamb, who can score at will. This game is a toss up. … Valley 66, Groom 58

Silverton (0-4) at Happy (3-1), 7:30 p.m.

The Cowboys are on fire, winning their last three games after dropping the season opener. Expect the Cowboys ground game to continue to put up points quickly. … Happy 54, Silverton 6
