The West Texas A&M volleyball team defended home court and made Homecoming weekend a success getting a pair of Lone Star Conference wins against Dallas Baptist and Texas Woman’s on Friday and Saturday.
The Lady Buffs picked up a sweep of DBU on Friday, 25-22, 25-19, 25-19) and then followed that up with a four-set victory Saturday over TWU, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16, 25-12. The No. 14-ranked Lady Buffs improve to 3-1 in LSC play and 11-4 on the year. WTAMU will continue its homestand with Midwestern State at 6 p.m. Tuesday, then will play host to Eastern New Mexico at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Friday’s match
WTAMU set the tone early in the match Friday taking the first set and never looking back.
Amarillo High graduate and Lady Buff outside hitter Currie Marusak led WTAMU with 15 kills and contributed 10 digs, amassing a team-high 16 points. Kaycee Cavanaugh closely followed, tallying 14 kills and adding a service ace to finish with 15.5 points. Hereford graduate and WTAMU middle blocker Taytum Stow was a force at the net, recording eight total blocks and hitting .571 with eight kills on 14 attempts.
Karly Wells stands out on the DBU team, leading with 19 kills on 61 attempts and tallying 20.5 points. Sydney Payne has been effective in setting with nine assists, contributing to the team’s offensive setup. Paityn Winters also played a crucial role in setting, recording 15 assists and adding nine digs to the defensive effort. Aizlyn Dewberry provided a strong presence at the net with four block assists, showcasing her defensive skills.
Saturday’s match
West Texas A&M’s Emma Becker had quite the performance against TWU finishing the match with with 21 kills and 13 digs as the double-double effort led the Lady Buffs to a weekend sweep.
On top of 21 kills, Becker had a .442 hitting percentage and added 23.5 points. Marusak contributed defensively with 17 digs while also adding 12 kills. Bromli Watson facilitated the offense with 47 assists and recorded 18 digs. Stow was effective once more at the net, blocking a total of four opponent attacks.
Trinity Blackwood showcased a strong offensive performance for Texas Woman’s with eight kills and an impressive .350 hitting percentage. Myracle Stockman proved to be a key player with 10 kills, one solo block, and a total of 11.5 points, making significant contributions on both sides of the net.
