Amarillo High beats up El Paso Bel Air
The Amarillo High broke out the bats during a two-game sweep of El Paso Bel Air to keep on rolling and capture the UIL Class 5A regional championship Friday and Saturday at the Seminole Baseball Complex.
In total, the Sandies stacked up 35 runs on top of 36 his in the pair of wins. AHS won the first game by a 7-1 margin and then closed the series out Saturday putting together an eye-popping 28-6 victory in five innings.
The Sandies (32-4) are moving on to the regional semifinal round for a major matchup with Aledo (33-3) in a best-of-three series beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Cruther Scott Field on the campus of Abilene Christian University. Game set for 1 p.m. Friday with game three to follow, if necessary.

In Friday’s opener, Taegen Tate shined on the mound for AHS. Tate locked up Bel Air to get the win, throwing a complete game, scattering four hits, giving up just one run while getting 10 strikeouts. Offensively, Xander Plowman had an RBI double and finished the contest with two RBIs.
On Saturday, AHS had the bats going, scoring 12 runs over the first four innings to build a 12-0 advantage. Bel Air did plate six in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the deficit at 12-6, however, the Sandies caught fire in the top of the sixth by putting up an incredible 16 runs to put the game well out of reach.
Talon Jones was 2-for-3 on the day that included a two-run home run, and drove in two more. Teammate Jayden Cedillo had three hits with a double and three RBIs and Austin Sluder delivered a pair of doubles and drove in a run. Sluder also scored on two occasions.
CLASS 4A
Hereford hustles past El Paso Riverside
District 4-4A made quite the statement in the second round of the UIL playoffs with all four teams going a combined 4-0.
Hereford had one of the better series over the weekend, but were able to come away with a thrilling sweep of El Paso Riverside to clinch the UIL Class 4A regional quarterfinal championship Thursday and Friday at the Monahans Baseball Complex.
Hereford won the opener on a 4-3 walk-off victory Thursday, then put away Riverside with a 3-1 win Friday.
The Whitefaces (21-13) are on to the regional semifinals where they’ll take on Mineral Wells (20-13-2) at a time and place to be determined.
In the opener, the game was tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh when Hereford’s Diego Ortiz played hero driving in Kayden Alonzo on an RBI game-winning single. Ortiz was 2-for-4 in the victory while Alonzo went 3-for-4 with two doubles and had two RBIs.
In Friday’s close out game, senior Kalub Ramirez was in complete control on the hill. Ramirez had Riverside completely off balance tossing a complete game, allowing just five hits with an earned run while running up an impressive 13 strikeouts.
West Plains hammers El Paso Ysleta
The West Plains Wolves made quick work of El Paso Ysleta in a two-game sweep to win the UIL Class 4A Division I regional quarterfinal championship Thursday and Friday at the Andrews Baseball Complex.
Noah Vasquez was the highlight of the series sweep for the Wolves. In game one, Vasquez torched Ysleta pitching going 4-for-5 with a homer and a double to tally four RBIs. In Friday’s clinching win, Vasquez was 1-for-2 with an RBI double and tossed a complete game on the mound, allowing three runs with three strikeouts to get the win.
West Plains (27-7) advances to meet up with Springtown (23-8-2) in the regional quarterfinals at a time and place to be determined.
Canyon soars past Clint
The Canyon Eagles soared past Clint with two convincing run-rule victories Thursday and Friday to win the UIL Class 4A Division II regional quarterfinal championship at Seminole Baseball Complex.
The domination started with a 12-1 win by Canyon on Thursday followed a 14-0 shutout Friday.
The Eagles pitching did their job in the two wins. Bayler Schilling set the tone in the opener, tossing five innings, allowing a run with six strikeouts. In game two, Keegan McCullogh was equally impressive throwing five shutout innings of one-hit baseball with six K’s of his own.
At the plate, Levi Turner had a strong series going a combined 4-for-4 with a double and a total of six RBIs.
Canyon (26-7-1) advances to the regional semifinals for a matchup with Brock (23-5) at a time and place to be determined.
Randall rolls by Fabens
Two fast starts set the tone for the Randall Raiders on the way to a two-game sweep of Fabens to claim the UIL Class 4A Division II championship Thursday and Friday at the Pecos Baseball Complex.
Randall won the opener 13-1, and then completed the sweep with a 10-0 blanking on Friday.
Diego Flanagan used his power in the series delivering a homer in each game to finish the series with six total RBIs. Teammate Braxton Lowrey proved some pop on Friday going 4-for-4 with a double and a triple to finish with three runs driven in.
The Raiders (19-14-1) advance to the regional semifinals for a matchup with the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty-Eagle Mountain winner at a time and place to be determined.

CLASS 3A
Bushland blasts Denver City
The Bushland Falcons stayed red-hot by downing Denver City in sweeping fashion with a 12-2 victory Thursday and an 11-1 win on Friday to clinch the Class 3A regional quarterfinal title at Wilder Field at the Lubbock-Cooper Liberty Baseball Complex.
In Thursday’s opener, Wade McConnell, Colton Strickland and Landon Howell did the damage for Bushland. McConnell homered, doubled and had three RBIs. He also threw all five innings with six strikeouts to earn the win on the hill. Strickland added a double and triple of his own with three RBIs, and Howell also drove in three runs.
In Friday’s clinching win, Hunter Kissane doubled and tripled as part of a 3-for-3 day at the dish, driving in a pair of runs, and Bryson Jimemez was 3-for-3 with five RBIs.
The Falcons (25-7) are moving on to the regional semifinals to square off against Iowa Park (29-4) with a best-of-three series starting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lubbock-Cooper High School. Game two will be played at 1 p.m. Friday back at Lubbock-Cooper with game three to follow.
Shallowater sinks Brownfield
Shallowater is going strong through the postseason and that carried on with a 15-5 and 8-0 win to sweep Brownfield during the UIL Class 3A Division I regional quarterfinal round at Lubbock-Cooper High School on Thursday and Friday.
The Mustangs saw Maddox Mitchell deliver in game one with a 2-for-4 effort that included a double and four RBIs. In the clinching win, Manning Mitchell was a perfect 4-for-4 with a double and drove in a run while scoring three times.
The Mustangs (31-3-1) are headed to the regional semifinals for a date with Jim Ned (28-2) at a time and place to be determined.

CLASS 2A
New Deal holds off Sunray
In a series that took all three games, New Deal was able to outlast a gutsy Sunray team to win the Class 2A Division I regional quarterfinal championship.
The Lions roared in Thursday’s game one with a 14-0 shutout, only to see the Bobcats bounce back with a thrilling 8-7 victory. In a decisive game three Friday, New Deal used a seven-run top of the third that put the contest away as the Lions went on for a 12-4 win.
New Deal (25-4) is moving on to the regional semifinals for a meeting with Cisco (15-9) in a best-of-three series beginning at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Ira High School. Game two is set for 2 p.m. Saturday with game three following if necessary.
Sunray ends a solid season at 15-6.
In that clinching game three, the Lions led 2-1 before breaking the game open on a string of hits in the right spots. The rally started on a Colt Ramsey RBI single making it 3-1. Moments later, Emilio Rodriguez delivered a run scoring single, and the back breaker for the Bobcats was a two-run single from Mario Chavarria.
Easton Calzada led the Lions going 3-for-5 on Friday with three RBIs.

CLASS 1A
Nazareth cruises past Claude
It was another day at the office for Nazareth, as the Swifts cruised past Claude for an 18-4 run-rule win in five innings to clinch the UIL Class 1A regional quarterfinal championship Saturday afternoon at the Floydada Baseball Complex.
The Swifts jumped out to a fast start putting the Mustangs in a chasing position they never could recover from. Nazareth plated four runs in the first and then broke the contest wide open with a seven-run second inning to go up by a commanding 11-0.
Lincoln Pohlmeier did his job at the dish going 3-for-3 with a double, a triple to end the game with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Teammate Zane Schulte was 2-for-4 at the plate and doubled home a run. Schulte also pitched all five innings with 10 strikeouts.
Nazareth (10-5) will now take on O’Donnell (14-5) in the regional semifinal at a time and place to be determined.
