WICHITA FALLS – The Amarillo High Lady Sandies are one step away from the programs first ever regional championship.

The Lady Sandies collected two gold balls this past week beating El Paso High 5-2 in the UIL Class 5A Division I area round Tuesday and then blanked Birdville 2-0 during a regional semifinal Friday in Wichita Falls.

AHS (20-2-1) will now play in the Region I-5A Division I championship for the first time since the 2021 season when the Lady Sandies take on Colleyville Heritage (15-2-1) at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Burkburnett.

During the area round win against El Paso High (18-2-1), AHS was able to put together a huge second half. Sofia Pepper opened the scoring with her first goal coming at the 14-minute mark putting the Lady Sandies up 1-0.

The Randall Lady Raiders are headed to the regional championship game for the third time in program history.

Randall defeated San Elizario 3-1 in the UIL Class 4A Division II area round earlier in the week, then held off Benbrook 2-1 in a thrilling regional semifinal.

Randall (20-5-1) is one game away from a first state semifinal for the first time since 2010. First, the Lady Raiders have to play Godley (16-4) in the Region I-4A Division II championship at 5 p.m. on Monday at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium.

In the win against San Elizario, Kyndal Mcclain led a comeback netting a pair of goals in the second half. Ryann Davis added another score as Randall went on for the 3-1 victory.

Against Benbrook, Randall had to overcome a shaky start. That was until Brooke French took advantage scoring off a rebound tying the game up 1-1 heading into halftime. In the second half, Randall’s Jess Ledesma floated a ball over the Benbrook goalie in the opening minute that factored as the eventual game-winning goal.

Class 4A quick hits

Mya Bartlett had both goals against Ysleta and Kat Torres netted the lone goal in the penalty kick session for West Plains. The Lady Wolves ended an incredible year at 17-4-3.
