H.S. Softball roundup: AHS stays perfect in 3-5A; Canyon cruises, River Road stays hot

Amarillo High clinched a Class 5A playoff spot completing the season sweep of Bell Street rival Randall, 9-3, on Tuesday at the Lady Sandies Softball Complex.

The Lady Sandies are now 7-0 in district play and 19-11-1 overall. Randall falls to 17-11-1 overall and 5-2 in league action. Despite the loss, the Lady Raiders are also postseason bound thanks to a Plainview win over Tascosa 8-3 on Tuesday.

AHS opened the game wide open with a 5-run third inning highlighted by a Bethany Noble single that scored Kylee Landsbury and Lindsey Elizondo. Noble did her job in the circle as well, going all seven innings, allowing three earned runs with seven strikeouts. Lansbury went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Caprock is headed to the playoffs after pummeling Palo Duro 37-1 on Tuesday. Shortstop Jaelin Ornelas had a monster afternoon at the plate going 5-for-6, smashing three doubles to go with seven RBIs.

The Lady Longhorns stay tied with Randall at 5-2 in district and improve to 15-14 overall.

District 4-4A

Canyon clinched a Class 4A playoff spot with another lopsided win this time over Perryton 24-3 at home on Monday.

Kamryn Jackson tallied five RBIs for the Lady Eagles, while teammate Maddie Hight added two runs driven in. Canyon is a perfect 7-0 in District 4-4A and 19-9 overall. Perryton falls to 2-20, 0-7.

Dumas got back on the winning track taking down Hereford 12-2.

Sania Reyes feasted on Lady Whiteface pitching going 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Teammate Cami Velasquez was also 2-for-3, adding a double of her own with two RBIs, and Amery Casanova blasted a 3-run homer.

The Demonettes (21-10) are in the middle of the pack in district at 3-4. Hereford is now 10-17-1, 2-5.

District 1-3A

Bushland and River Road stayed tied atop District 1-3A standings with convincing wins on Monday.

The Lady Falcons run-ruled Dalhart 31-0 on the road. Pitcher Jillian Howell tossed a no-hitter during the five inning contest racking up 10 K’s.

Howell, Jaycee Adams, and Abby Howell all homered, and accounted for 15 of the teams RBIs.

Bushland (22-8) moves to 5-1 in district.

River Road kept pace with the Lady Falcons cruising to a 24-1 win over Canadian. Carolyn Koval hit for the cycle on her way to driving in four runs. Koval also handcuffed Canadian to two hits over five innings in the circle with 10 strikeouts.

River Road (18-9-1, 5-1) travels to Bushland with first place on the line at 6 p.m. Thursday.
